BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Saturday afternoon, Wolfsburg host RB Leipzig at the Volkswagen Arena, in what could be a pivotal clash in both the race for Champions League and the title in the Bundesliga.
The home side is sixth-place in the Bundesliga table and only trail the second-place visitors by six points. Even a win in this clash is unlikely to move the Wolves into the Champions League spots, as fourth-place Dortmund are three points ahead with a superior goal difference of seven.
Despite their relatively lofty position in the table, Oliver Glasner’s team head into this clash on the back of just one win in their last four league outings. Last time out, the Wolves drew 2-2 with Union Berlin. The draw means that they have taken just one point from their last two league outings.
The visitor’s title hopes took a blow last time out when they suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Dortmund. The loss ended an eight-game unbeaten run in the German top-flight for Die Roten Bullen and leaves Julian Nagelsmann’s team two points behind reigning champions and leaders Bayern Munich.
The defeat against BVB was out character for Leipzig, who had kept four straight clean sheets in the German top-flight. Recent stellar defensive displays have contributed to the visitors having the best backline in the Bundesliga.
RB Leipzig have experienced mixed fortunes on their travels this season, but are now unbeaten in their previous four away games in the Bundesliga. Their recent away matches have been tight, low-scoring affairs with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven games in Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg are expected to be without Jerome Roussillon, while Maximilian Philipp is expected to miss out due to illness.
RB Leipzig have a relatively long list of possible absentees for this clash including Kevin Kampl, Justin Kluivert, Benjamin Henrichs, Fabrice Hartmann, Christopher Nkunku, Konrad Laimer, Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai.
