On Saturday evening, the first Euro 2020 last-16 tie takes place, as Wales and Denmark go head at the Amsterdam ArenA.

WALES

The Dragons will be delighted to be into the last-16 for a second straight European Championships after making the semi-finals at Euro 2016. Robert Page’s side qualified for the knockout stages by drawing 1-1 with Switzerland and winning 2-0 against Turkey. A 1-0 defeat against group winners Italy in their last group match mattered little in the end.

One issue that may be a concern is that the Dragons have now won just once in their last five international games. However, they will have a belief that they can progress further, especially with the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey available to head coach Page.

DENMARK

After star man Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the 1-0 defeat of Finland, football took a back seat for everybody connected with the Scandinavian country. However, thankfully Eriksen is now recovering after a heart operation.

Kasper Hjulmand’s team also managed to make the last-16 of the competition due to a 4-1 hammering of Russia in their final group game. The win saw the Danes finish second in their group on goal difference ahead of their Nordic rival Finland.

The win and qualification were massive tonics after the events in the Danish capital less than two weeks ago. They will feel like they have a big chance to make the quarter-finals of the European championships for the fifth time in their history.

Team News

Wales are without versatile Ethan Ampadu, who received a red card in their final group game against Italy.

Denmark are of course without talisman Eriksen and may well name an unchanged team from the one that hammered Russia.
