On Saturday night, Ukraine and England meet at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with both teams eying up a place in the semi-finals of Euro2020.

UKRAINE

Andrey Shevchenko’s team have made it to the last eight of Euro2020, despite losing two of their three group matches. However, a 2-1 win over North Macedonia was enough to set up a last-16 clash with Sweden. The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Ukraine won it 2-1 in extra time after the dismissal of Swedish defender Markus Danielsson.

This is new territory for Ukraine as an independent nation, as they failed to get out of their group in both 2012 and 2016, which are the only previous European Championships finals that they have featured in.

ENGLAND

The Three Lions have enjoyed a steady campaign so far, winning three of their four games in Euro 2020 without conceding a goal. A 2-0 defeat over rivals Germany in the last-16 will have given the players a major confidence boost. The victory was the first over Germany in a knockout stage game since England won the World Cup back in 1966.

Gareth Southgate’s team are aiming to become only the second England team to make the last four of the European Championships. The last time they did was in 1996 on home soil, when they suffered penalty heartbreak against Germany, with Southgate missing the decisive penalty kick.

Maybe crucially both semi-finals will be played at the home of English football Wembley. The final of the competition will also take place at the historic stadium.

Ukraine could be without Oleksandr Zubkov, Artem Besedin and Denys Popov due to injury. England have no reported injuries. The Three Lions may name an unchanged starting line-up from last time out, although Jack Grealish could come into the starting eleven after setting up the second goal for Harry Kane against Germany.
