On Wednesday evening, Turkey and Wales go head-to-head in Baku in what could be a crucial clash in Group A of Euro 2020.

TURKEY

Despite heading into the tournament as one of many people’s dark horses, Turkey suffered a 3-0 hammering against Italy in their Euro 2020 opener. Unfortunately, the defeat followed a familiar trend for Turkey in the European Championships, as it was their fourth defeat in their last five outings.

The defeat may not have been the ideal start for Senol Gunes’ team, but they still have time to bounce back and qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. The gameweek one defeat ended a six-game unbeaten run for Turkey in international football. They will fancy their chances of returning to winning ways in this clash.

WALES

Robert Page’s team picked up a potentially valuable 1-1 draw against Switzerland courtesy of a late equaliser from Cardiff forward Kiefer Moore. The result was a much-needed one in what could prove to be a tight group, as it seemingly looks like three teams will be fighting for second place in the group, with Italy red-hot favourites to win the group.

The draw continues a three-game winless run for Wales in international football. On the flip-side, Wales’ only defeats in their last 11 international outings have been against Belgium and France, who most teams struggle against.

In their eight games at European Championships, the Dragons have also suffered just two defeats, against England and Portugal.

Team News

Turkey head coach Gunes’ is likely to make changes to his starting eleven. However, he may well stick to the same defensive set-up that started against Italy, as they are usually reliable.

Wales head coach Page has no reason to change his starting line-up unless there are any injury niggles.
