On Thursday night, Serbia and Scotland go head-to-head in Belgrade in a crucial Euro 2020 play-off final. The winners will qualify for Euro 2021.

Serbia

This clash could be a difficult one for a Serbia team that has won just once in their previous six games in all competitions. The home side drew 2-2 with Turkey last time out, which wasn’t a terrible result.

Serbia have played in several recent World Cups. However, at World Cup 2018 they won just one of their three games to exit the competition at the group stage.
Despite their seemingly prolific qualifications for the World Cup, Serbia have not featured at a European Championships since 2000, which was as Serbia and Montenegro. Ljubisa Tumbakovic’s team will be determined to put that record straight.

Scotland

The visitors have an even worse record than their hosts at qualifying for European Championships, as they have not featured in the competition since Euro 96’ in neighbouring England. In fact, their last appearance in any international tournament was way back in 1998 at the World Cup.

Unlike the hosts, Scotland heads into this game in top form. Steve Clarke’s team are unbeaten in eight games, having recorded six games in the process. The visitors have also kept clean sheets in their last three matches.

Scotland have won their last two away games, including recording a vital 2-1 win in the Czech Republic. Their recent away games have been high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight matches on their travels.

Serbia saw Milos Veljkovic withdraw through injury, while Sassuolo midfielder Filip Duricic will also miss out due to injury.

Ryan Fraser and Grant Hanlon have withdrawn from the Scotland squad.
