Real Vallecano vs Real Betis

On Sunday afternoon, two of the surprise packages of this season’s La Liga, Real Vallecano and Real Betis meet at the Estadio de Vallecas.

Andoni Iraola’s team have surprised everybody in the Spanish game by challenging at the right end of La Liga. The team from the Spanish capital are currently sixth-place in the table, just two points outside the Champions League spots.

Rayo were in the league’s top-four until a 2-0 defeat at reigning champions Atletico Madrid saw Diego Simeone’s team move into the final Champions League qualification berth. The defeat was part of a recent inconsistent run of league form for Vallecano in La Liga that has yielded just two wins from La Liga matches.

However, one thing facet of Rayo Vallecano’s game that has not been inconsistent of late has been their home form, as they are unbeaten in nine league games at Vallecas, having recorded eight victories in the process.

Like their hosts, Real Betis have certainly surprised a few people with their results and their position in La Liga at the halfway point of the season. Los Verdiblancos are currently third-place in the table, three points ahead of the home team, in a tight race for the league’s top-four this season.

However, the Andalusians head into this game on the back of two straight league defeats, as they have suffered losses against Athletic Club and Celta Vigo.

Betis have also been the definition of inconsistent away from home in recent months, as they have won three and lost three of their last six league games on their travels in La Liga.
