PFA Player Of The Year 19/20

VVD

With the return of the Premier League just over a week, away we’re going to take a look a Bet365’s odds on the 2019/20 PFA Player Of The Year.

The PFA Player Of The Year is awarded annually at the end of the season. It is voted for by all the players in the Premier League, which is why it is such a respected award.

Last seasons winner was Virgil Van Dijk. Even though he side didn’t win the league he was a rock at the back and helped earn Liverpool 97 points. He was the first defender to win the award since John Terry in 2004/05.

Five players have been crowned the PFA Player Of The Year twice. They are Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Since the award first started in 1973/74, English players have won it 18 times, which is more than any other country.

Kevin De Bruyne – 6/1

Arguably the best player in the league, the Belgian had a tough year last season with injuries. He only featured in 19 of Citys league games and struggled for fitness. He only managed two goals and two assists which compared to 14 goals and 35 assists the two seasons before is a big drop. However, this shows how well he can be at his very best and is looking back to full fitness in pre-season. When De Bruyne is on form he is unstoppable. His vision is unbelievable and can also score the odd screamer. Guardiola will need him back to his best to make it three Premier Leauge titles in a row.

Salah – 6/1

The Premier Leagues top scorer for the last two season is always going to be one of the favourites for the award. Salah hit the ground running when he joined Liverpool in 2017/18 and hasn’t stopped since. 32 goals in his first season clinched him the PFA Player Of The Year award that year and he then went on to score 22 last season. Salah is a consistent performer in the league and turns up for the big games as well. He plays in a very strong Liverpool side that is sure to see him get on the score sheet. The winger is another good bet for Player Of The Year due to the number of goals and good performances he has.

Sterling – 7/1

Last year Sterling was unlucky to lose out on the award to Van Dijk. Since he joined Man City he has been improving season on season. Last year he got 17 goals and 12 assists in 34 games. He was one of the main reasons why City won the league and he stood up when De Bruyne wasn’t there. At the age of only 24, he has his best years ahead of him. Whilst at City it is clear he has got a lot better in his finishing. His pace means he will get many chances in behind defenders and this season having De Bruyne playing to him, he could well pick up the award for the first time.

Higher priced players:

Virgil Van Dijk (14/1) – The Dutch defender won the award last year after a great season. He will need to be at the same standard this season for Liverpool to win the league though. Could he do it and be the first defender to win the award twice?

Harry Kane (14/1) – When you are the favourite to win the Golden Boot then surely you are in with a shout to win the Player Of The Year. If Kane can get a full season in and score 25+ goals, who knows where he and Spurs will be at the end of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (25/1) – Last seasons joint-top goalscorer could be up there again this year. He is an out and out goalscorer which can only help Arsenal this season. At 25/1 he could be worth an outside bet.

Paul Pogba (33/1) – When this man is on form then is no stopping him. The only issue is, is that he is not on form enough! If Solskjaer can get him playing his best every week then Man United have one of the best players in the world, never mind the Premier League. This year is a big year for United and they’re going to need the best Paul Pogba.

Tonguy Ndombele (40/1)  – An ambitious choice but we’ve seen it before with Kante. A London club in need of a midfielder brings in a Frenchman who goes on to dominate the league and wins Player Of The Year. Ndombele is just what Spurs need and he may surprise a few this season.
