On Saturday night, Montenegro hosts the Netherlands in Group G of World Cup qualifying, as the visitors look to move closer to booking their spot at Qatar 2021.

The home team look unlikely to qualify for next years World Cup, as they head into this clash six points behind second-place Norway. They also have an inferior goal difference of nine to the Scandinavians.

A poor recent record in World Cup qualifying looks set to prove fatal to their hopes of making the play-offs. Montenegro have won just one of their previous six qualifiers.

Miodrag Radulovic’s team has also won just one of their previous four home qualifiers for the World Cup. The fact that they have failed to score in three of their previous four home matches in qualifying.

Netherlands

The Oranje are currently top of the group, two points clear of second-place Norway in the race to qualify for next years World Cup. Louis van Gaal’s team has won their last four qualifying matches, scoring at least four goals in three of the games. They have also suffered just one defeat in their previous 13 qualifiers.

The visitors have been strong defensively in World Cup qualifiers of late, keeping clean sheets in five of their last eight matches.

The Netherlands have been in good home form in recent qualifiers, as they have recorded seven straight wins on home soil in World Cup qualifying, scoring at least two goals in all seven wins.

Montenegro will be without the suspended Marko Vesovic, so Marko Vukcevic could well replace Vesovic. The Netherlands are without Steven Berghuis, Jurrien Timber and Joel Drommel through injury. Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt are competing for a place in the centre of defence.
