On Thursday night, in-form Juventus host out of sorts Napoli at the Allianz Stadium, in a game that could be vital in the fight for the Champions League spots in Serie A.

Things are certainly looking up for the Bianconeri after Max Allegri’s team mounted a five-game unbeaten league run before the winter break. A 2-0 home win over Cagliari in their last game of 2021 means that the team from Turin have won four and drawn one of those recent five unbeaten league games.

A return to solid defensive displays has been the key to the Old Lady’s recent form, as they have conceded just two goals in their last seven outings in Serie A.

Their recent good form has moved Juventus up to fifth-place in the table, four points behind Atalanta, who currently occupy the last Champions League qualification spot in Serie A.

NAPOLI

It seems that Napoli’s dreams of winning the Scudetto now lie in tatters after a woeful end to 2021. The Azzurri made a blistering start to their campaign in the Italian top-flight. However, the team from Naples head into the game on the back of just one win in their last eight league matches. A surprise 1-0 reverse at home to Spezia in their last match of 2021 was their third league defeat in four outings.

Luciano Spalletti’s team has also struggled for consistency on their travels, as they have won just two of their previous five away matches in Serie A.

Juventus look set to be without Giorgio Chiellini, Arthur and Carlo Pinsoglio due to illness, while Aaron Ramsey, Leonardo Bonucci and Danilo look set to miss out through injury.

Napoli will be without Andre Zambo Anguissa, Kalidou Koulibaly and Adam Ounas who have all left for the African Cup of Nations. Full-back Mario Rui is ruled out through suspension and Victor Osimhen remains side lined through injury. Hirving Lozano, Eljif Elmas and Kevin Malcuit could all miss out through illness.
