On Thursday evening, Milan will look to revive their bid for the Scudetto as the Rossoneri welcome Roma to the San Siro.

The Rossoneri’s title challenge stumbled slightly before the winter break, as they won just one of their last three league games of 2021. That one win was a 4-2 victory over Empoli just prior to the break.

The victory was much-needed, but Stefano Pioli’s team still find themselves four points behind arch-rivals and league leaders Inter at the top of the table.

Milan cannot be faulted for their performances in front of goal of late in Serie A, as they have scored at least two goals in five of their last seven games in the Italian top-flight.

One facet of their game that needs to improve, though, is home form, as Milan have won just one of their last four home matches in the Italian top-flight.

Roma

The Giallorossi are sixth-place in the Serie A table, trailing fourth-place Atalanta by six points in the fight for those all-important Champions League spots for next season.

Jose Mourinho’s team took seven points from a possible nine before the winter break, with a 1-1 home draw against Sampdoria in their final match of 2021.

Roma needs to improve their away record if they are to break into the top-four, as they have lost five of their last eight league matches on their travels, picking up just three wins in the process.

Milan will be without Franck Kessie, Ismael Bennacer and Fodo Ballo-Toure, who have all left for the African Cup of Nations. Ciprian Tatarusanu could miss out through illness, while Simon Kjaer, Alessandro Plizzari and Pietro Pellegri are likely to miss the game through injury.

Roma will be without Amadou Diawara, Felix Afena-Gyan and Ebrima Darboe who are with their national teams for the African Cup of Nations. Borja Mayoral and Daniel Fuzato are also fitness doubts due to illness, while Tammy Abraham is an injury doubt.
