Southampton vs Man City
SUN 5th JULY 2020 – KO 19:00pm
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday evening it’s Southampton vs Man City at St Mary’s Stadium in a Premier League clash which should produce plenty of goals.
It’s safe to say that this Southampton side has not enjoyed the best season. Yet, they’ve done enough to avoid the relegation zone. The Saints lost their last home game 0-2 against Arsenal but redeemed themselves with a 1-3 away win at Watford.
This fixture against Man City will not be an easy one. However, as the Premier League title race is over, City might have one eye on the FA and European Cup competitions.
Pep’s team have been known to fold under sustained pressure. If Southampton can get at City from the kick-off, it could pay dividends. But It will largely depend on how both sides go into the match. If the game follows the typical end of season script, I can’t see Southampton getting much from the clash. But if Hasenhüttl can motivate his team, it’s not inconceivable that they could snatch a point against City.
City head into this match following a brilliant result against the newly crowned champions Liverpool. Manchester City put four past Klopp’s team on Thursday night.
No doubt that Pep and his team are heading to Southampton in good spirits. However, with fixtures coming thick and fast, City could opt to save players for upcoming FA Cup semi-finals and a European Cup game against Real Madrid later in the campaign.
While this is a challenging game to call, I do expect a fair few goals. Bets on over 3.5 goals and higher should be considered. City have found the back of the net 12 times in the last five outings. Southampton has scored 6 in their previous 3 matches.
Southampton have no new injury concerns, although Sofiane Boufal is set to miss a third match because of a thigh injury. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also a major doubt. Sergio Aguero is City’s only injury absentee. However, expect to see Pep rotate the squad following the game against Liverpool.
