Will Tuchel Taste First Season Success With Chelsea?

Stamford Bridge 1

The appointment of Tuchel has seen a huge change around in Chelsea, but can he win something after just half a season?

Chelsea parted ways with club legend Frank Lampard at the end of January and replaced him with Thomas Tuchel. The German manager had recently been sacked from PSG after a poor run of form before Christmas. Many questioned whether he was the right man for the job, due to the credibility of managing in the French league.

Since taking over though on January 26th, Tuchel has remained unbeaten, which is even more impressive considering Chelsea had lost six times in the league alone under Lampard. The new manager has made Chelsea far more defensively stronger, conceding just two in ten in the league and climbing back to fourth place.

On top of this, Chelsea finds themselves in the quarters of the Champions League and the semis of the FA Cup. They had to overcome Atletico Madrid in the Round Of 16 that ended 3-0 to Chelsea, which would be a fantastic result for any club in the world.

Initially many thought Tuchel was coming in to steady the ship and next year would be the year he went for trophies. This year has gone very well though and he could end it with silverware.

First Season Trophies For Tuchel?

FA Cup – 7/2

Chelsea take on Man City in the semi-finals, the toughest draw they could have got. Should they beat them, they will no doubt become the clear favourites to win this competition. Against City, you need to play very well defensively, have good organisation and each player stick to their roles. With Tuchel it appears this has become a part of Chelsea’s game.

When we have seen teams beat City, they play good counter-attacking football, as Man United did. Chelsea have lots of pace in their side with Werner, Pulisic and Hudson-Odio to name a few. Chelsea can beat City, but it will be a very tough job. At 7/2 its a good price now because it’ll sure be lower if they get to the final!

Champions League – 5/1

Chelsea have snook in from nowhere to go third favourites in the competition. They face Porto in the quarters and then the winner of Liverpool and Real, should they progress. We expect them to beat Porto and in terms of the semi’s, they have already beaten Liverpool this season and shown they can compete against the best in Europe in the previous round.

Tuchel took PSG to last years final so knows what it takes to win in Europe. We seriously think Chelsea could be a dark horse in this season competition.

Champions League & FA Cup Double – 20/1

Now, this would be some achievement if he managed to do this. We think focusing on staying in the top four, winning the FA Cup and the Champions League, maybe a step too far. It is hard to compete on three fronts and if his best players aren’t rested, injuries will occur. However, at 20/1 it’s a brilliant price and one that could turn out to be a brilliant bet come the end of the season.
