With just over one week left of the Premier League season, who needs what to finish in the top four this season?
The race for the top four this season is going to go right down to the final game this season with four teams realistically in the running.
Man City and Man United have both already taken two of the available spots, but United could still finish anywhere from second to fourth. City were last night crowned Premier League champions with Leicester beating United at Old Trafford.
Getting into the Champions League is key for having a good season the following year. If you get in, you will receive around €15 million just for qualifying. On top of this, it helps you to attract the biggest talents around Europe, as well as keeping your own.
Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool and West Ham are the four remaining clubs battling it out to get the final two spots. Currently, it is in the hands of Chelsea and Leicester, but the two sides play each other so it could allow for one of the other two teams to sneak in.
Who Needs What To Finish In The Top Four?
Leicester – 3rd – 66 points – (1/4)
The Foxes have just two games left in the Premier League this season. Three points could be enough with Liverpool having to play United, but four points would confirm their place in the top four. Leicester face Chelsea next Tuesday night, a replay of this weekend’s FA Cup final, before hosting Spurs on the final day.
These are two tough fixtures to get four points from, however, Leicester have beaten them both in the league this season. The Chelsea game will be the toughest of the two as they are in the top four race as well. Last season they lost out of the final day to Man United and this season they may need Solskjaer’s side to do them a favour and get something against Liverpool.
Chelsea – 4th – 64 points – (1/12)
With three games remaining, Chelsea need six points from them. They take on Arsenal tonight before hosting Leicester and then ending the campaign away at Aston Villa. Under Tuchel they have won ten out of 16 games in the league, losing just one.
They are in great form at the moment and will fancy beating at least Villa and Arsenal. Chelsea do have an FA Cup and Champions League final to rest and prepare for, but they have a very big squad so should be able to deal with this. We fully expect Tuchel’s side to be in the top four after the game against Aston Villa, however, if they don’t beat Arsenal tonight, the game against Leicester in the league is another cup final in itself.
West Ham – 5th – 58 points – (20/1)
The surprise package of this season is West Ham. They finished five points above the bottom three last season and are now fighting to get in the top four! Winning all three games isn’t enough for West Ham they need the teams above them to drop points.
West Ham face Brighton, West Brom and then Southampton on the last day. They have only beaten West Brom this season with the other two games finishing draws. The Hammers will be favourite for all of these games but to win three in a row is a big ask. They have done this twice this season but it’s not an easy task. They can finish on 67 points, which would require Leicester to lose both and either Chelsea or Liverpool to also drop points.
Liverpool – 6th – 57 points – (9/4)
At the start of the season, Liverpool getting in the top four was never in question. However, once their injuries struck they starting tumbling down the table and now find themselves in a fight for Champions League football next year. With four games remaining, Liverpool can get themselves to 69 points, but with Leicester and Chelsea both able to do the same, they need them both to drop points along the way.
Liverpool take on Man United, West Brom and Burnley all away from home, before hosting Palace on the last day. Klopp’s side are going to have to do something they’ve not done all season and win four consecutive games in the league. They will be favourites for all but the game against United is a huge one. If they lose this they are going to need a lot to go their way.
