After 16 years with the club, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is to leave the club in search of a new challenge!

Go back 16 years and Sergio Ramos was a long-haired, not very well-known, 19-year-old defender for Sevilla. He had a good second season for Sevilla featuring in most of their games and even scoring against Real Madrid.

In 2005, he would become the most expensive Spanish defender of all time, joining Real Madrid for a fee of €27 million. In his first season at the club, it would be a sign of things to come with Ramos showing he can score goals, but also see red, after being sent off four times that year.

Ramos would go on to become club captain at Real Madrid and lead them through a period of Spanish and European dominance. He won a total of 22 trophies whilst at Madrid, four of which were Champions Leagues and five La Liga’s. On top of this, he would also score 101 goals for the club, which for a defender is a ridiculous tally!

However, after an injury-filled season, Ramos was unable to agree to a new contract with the club, with the Spanish player wanting two years compared to Madrid’s offer of one. This has meant, he is now a free agent and even at the age of 35, most clubs in Europe would still take him for his experience alone! But, where will Ramos play next season?

Where Will Sergio Ramos Be Playing Next Season?

PSG – 4/11

Not short of a penny or two are PSG. Ramos was on very high wages at Real Madrid and that was one of the issues when it came to signing a new contract. They could afford his wages and even a sizeable sign-on fee, which he is reportedly demanding.

Joining PSG would mean that he is still playing with some world-class players and playing in the Champions League. PSG are desperate to win that competition and have failed at each attempt, but Ramos may be the missing piece. On top of this, with Ramos aging, he won’t be able to play every game which shouldn’t be such an issue in Ligue 1. A move to PSG could be one that suits all parties.

Sevilla – 10/3

A move that would certainly please Sevilla fans would be seeing Ramos return to his old club. This would suit him as it would mean staying in Spain as well as playing in the Champions League next season. That being said, Sevilla don’t have as much money as some of the other clubs he has been linked to, and were not sure we can see Ramos wanting to join a club that aren’t deemed one of the biggest in the world!

Juventus – 6/1

This would be a very interesting move and one that could see him link up with his old teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Juventus, like PSG, are desperate to win the Champions League and many thought they would when they signed Ronaldo. Bringing in the main players of the team that won three consecutive Champions League in a row could just do that.

However, Juventus do already have an ageing defence with Bonucci and Chiellini as well as two more centre-backs in De Ligt and Demiral, so someone would need to leave the club to make space for Ramos.

Man United – 10/1

Ramos has been linked with Man United several times over his career and now he is a free agent, could this be the time to bring him to the club. United are in need of a centre-back to partner Harry Maguire and Ramos could be the man to fill the gap for a season or two.

The club have a bit of a history of bringing in players at the end of their careers. Ramos could still make it in the Premier League, but United may opt to bring in someone os slightly lower wages.
