Where Will Lionel Messi Go After Barcelona? – Transfer Update

Lionel Messi Ballon

With Barcelona last night announcing that Lionel Messi will be leaving the club after 21 years at the club?

Yesterday Barcelona officially announced, that despite both the club and Messi agreeing on a contract, the forward would be leaving the club. This is due to a financial rule regarding salary limits in La Liga that was implemented a few seasons ago.

Last season it looked like he would be leaving after asking too, but the club eventually convinced him to stay. This summer, it was reported that Messi had agreed to a 50% pay cut to stay at the club, who are in financial difficulty.

Losing Messi is not only awful news for Barca but La Liga as well. Without Messi, La Liga will lose a lot of viewers and it feels as if Barca being so public with the reason for him leaving is a way of trying to get La Liga to change the ruling.

Now the best player in the world is a free agent, a number of clubs are interested in signing him, but where will he go?

Where Will Lionel Messi Go After Barcelona? – Transfer Update

PSG – 3/10

Probably the only side in the world that can afford Messi’s staggering wage bill is PSG. They have been in talks with his agent since yesterday’s announcement and are working hard to bring him in. PSG are thought to be confident on finalising a move for Messi which would be huge for them.

Interestingly, Messi was photographed on holiday last week with Neymar, Di Maria, and Veratti, all PSG players. He is close friends with Neymar who is also said to be working hard to get him to join. PSG recently signed a rival of Messi, Sergio Ramos. The Spanish defender said upon signing he would love Messi to join him and the two to play together. It appears, if Messi is going to go anywhere he will be going to the French capital!

Stay ate Barcelona – 13/5

Despite the club president coming out and saying that they can’t keep Messi, it wouldn’t surprise us if he stayed at the club he’s been all of his life. He wanted to stay with Barcelona and was even willing to take a pay cut. He made needs to take an even bigger one, but it’s not as if he needs the money!

As we said earlier, it’s a loss for La Liga as much as Barcelona. They could well change the rules slightly to ensure he stays at Barcelona.

Man City – 5/1

Last season it appeared as if Messi would finally be reuniting his old manager Pep Guardiola. When he said he wanted to leave, Man City were very interested but since then it has cooled down.

City have just brought in Jack Grealish and are still in the market for Harry Kane. He wants to leave Spurs but they obviously aren’t going to let him go for a reasonable price. If Kane doesn’t go City could turn their attention to Messi, given that they don’t have a striker after Aguero went to Barcelona this summer.

If Messi would want to join the club and City haven’t brought in Kane, maybe we could finally see the greatest player in the world playing in the Premier League.
