Where Could Frank Be Heading Next?

The Chelsea legend was relieved of his duties at The Blues and is now looking for a new job, but where is he favourite to go next?

After a fantastic playing career spanning 21 years, Lampard took his first steps into management. He went straight into the men’s game taking over as manager of Derby. It was a fairly successful first year, with Derby finishing sixth in the table. He managed to guide them to the Play-Off final but they were beaten at Wembley by Aston Villa.

This positive first year ended up getting him the job at Chelsea. They have just been handed a transfer ban and as such needed someone who could steady the ship and work with the academy. Lampard did just that getting Chelsea into the top four in his first season in charge, along with finishing runners up in the FA Cup.

After a good first year at Chelsea, he was backed heavily in the transfer market, spending over £200 million. This would eventually be his downfall as he failed to get the best out of Werner and Havertz, costing nearly £120 million combined. Chelsea sacked Lampard after a run of two wins in eight in the league, as well as reported fallouts with the board and some players.

As is the life of a Premier League manager, other clubs will come knocking fairly soon, especially if you have been at a big club. Several clubs are reported to be interested in Lampard, but where will he end up?

Where Could Frank Be Heading Next?

Crystal Palace – 9/4

Palace looks to be going through a huge clear out this summer, with 11 players currently out of contract at the end of the season. Along with the players is manager Roy Hodgson. This season hasn’t been a very exciting one and it is probably time for a change. Bringing in Lampard would be good due to the fact he can have a fresh start with so many players out and has shown he is good at working with youngsters, of which Palace have several promising ones. On top of this, Lampard lives in London, so taking a job there would make sense for him and his family.

Bournemouth – 16/5

The Cherries haven’t found the right man to lead them since Eddie Howe left after they were relegated to the Premier League at end of the 19/20 season. Jason Tindall took over but was sacked in February this year to be replaced by Jonathon Woodgate and caretaker manager until the end of the season. Woodgate has experience so could get the job fulltime but it would be a good one for Lampard to take. Bournemouth arguably should be in the Premier League so it would be an exciting project to take. In the Championship there would be less pressure too. Lampard’s uncle Harry Redknapp, managed Bournemouth for nine years and is currently assisting Woodgate with his role.

Sheffield United – 4/1

The Blades aren’t mathematically down yet, but it won’t be long. Chris Wilder has recently left the club with Paul Heckingbottom in charge temporarily. They will be looking for a manager to take them straight back to the Premier League and Lampard has shown he can take a side to the Play-Offs. Obviously, the location isn’t ideal but if the project is right, he wouldn’t turn it down. The Blades have a good squad and one that could push for promotion again next season, with the right person in charge.

Celtic – 11/2

This is one a lot of football fans would like to see. Gerrard has just won the league with Rangers and Celtic have had a very poor season. Neil Lennon has left the club and they are looking for a manager. It has always been a debate as to who was the better player between Gerrard and Lampard, but never who is the better manager. Even though they are in a poor league, Celtic are a huge club and one that could tempt Lampard up north.
