Aston Villa earnt a massive three points last night against the in-form Arsenal to take Premier League survival down to the final day!

With Watford and Aston Villa both playing last night, if results had gone The Hornets way, they could have guaranteed survival. After losing to West Ham 3-1 last weekend, Watford made the decision to sack manager Nigel Pierson. This came with some backlash after Pierson had done so well to get them out the bottom three after an awful start to the season.

Last night Watford took on Man City, a game in which they were never expected to win. However, with Aston Villa three points below them and playing Arsenal, this shouldn’t really have been too much of a worry.

Watford though had to worst possible result. They lost 4-0 to Man City and the result put Villa three points behind on level goal difference with Arsenal to play. Watford will have Ben Foster to thank also. The goalkeeper made many crucial saves as well as a penalty to stop Watford being further down in goal difference.

Aston Villa took this huge change they had been given and managed to beat Arsenal 1-0. The Gunners have been in fine form of late, beating Liverpool last week and then City on the weekend. Arsenal didn’t register a single shot on target last night, as Villa defended for their lives.

This result meant it now goes down to the final day to see which sides will stay up and who will go down.

Relegation Odds

West Ham – 16th place, 37 points, -13 GD (No odds available)

The Hammers take on Aston Villa on the final day of the season, with the result going to be massive on who stays up. However, it looks like West Ham are going to be safe regardless. They have a 13 goal difference cushion on the Aston Villa and Watford. Both sides would need to win and win by a huge margin for West Ham to have any chance of going down.

Aston Villa – 17th place, 34 points, -26 GD (2/1)

In a huge turn of events, it now looks like it’s going to be Aston Villa who will be safe. They take on West Ham on the final day and have a one-goal difference between them and Watford. Villa have drawn with West Ham already this season and will be confident of getting a result.

Villa needs to make sure they match the result and score of Watford’s game or better and they will stay up.

Watford – 18th place, 34 points, -27 GD (2/7)

The Hornets wouldn’t have been expecting to get anything against City, likewise, they thought Arsenal would have beaten Aston Villa. Watford now have it all to do against Arsenal on the final day.

Arsenal will want to respond from their disappointing loss to Villa. A win against Watford gives them a chance of not finishing 10th. However, Watford will know Arsenal are beatable but they will need to be at their very best.

Bournemouth – 19th place, 31 points, -27 GD (1/40)

The Cherries have it all to do on the final day. They take on Everton and need a lot of results to go their way. The only way they can stay up is if Villa and Watford both lose and they win.

Bournemouth takes on Everton on the final day at home. Eddie Howes side have managed just eight wins all season, and one of them was against Everton when they won 3-1. It will be a tough game for them, however, it’s not an outcome that seems impossible!
