Aston Villa earnt a massive three points last night against the in-form Arsenal to take Premier League survival down to the final day!
With Watford and Aston Villa both playing last night, if results had gone The Hornets way, they could have guaranteed survival. After losing to West Ham 3-1 last weekend, Watford made the decision to sack manager Nigel Pierson. This came with some backlash after Pierson had done so well to get them out the bottom three after an awful start to the season.
Last night Watford took on Man City, a game in which they were never expected to win. However, with Aston Villa three points below them and playing Arsenal, this shouldn’t really have been too much of a worry.
Watford though had to worst possible result. They lost 4-0 to Man City and the result put Villa three points behind on level goal difference with Arsenal to play. Watford will have Ben Foster to thank also. The goalkeeper made many crucial saves as well as a penalty to stop Watford being further down in goal difference.
Aston Villa took this huge change they had been given and managed to beat Arsenal 1-0. The Gunners have been in fine form of late, beating Liverpool last week and then City on the weekend. Arsenal didn’t register a single shot on target last night, as Villa defended for their lives.
This result meant it now goes down to the final day to see which sides will stay up and who will go down.
