Spurs Sack And Replace Manager In One Night
Daniel Levy and Spurs shocked the footballing world last night by sacking Mauricio Pochettino and replacing him within less than 12 hours!
After their worst start to a Premier League season in 11 years, Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by Spurs. This initially came as a shock to everyone, considering what he as turned Spurs into. But football club owners and CEO’s aren’t patient, especially when Jose Mourinho is out of a job.
In his five and a half years in charge, he qualified for the Champions League in four, reaching the final last season and nearly won the Premier Leauge. Albeit there are no trophies for any of this, but considering their budget he did an unbelievable job.
This was an ideal time from Levy’s perspective to make the change, with it being the international break. Many Spurs fans weren’t happy with it considering how well he has done. They felt he should have been given till at least the end of the season to turn things around. But when you look closer into it, it does look like maybe it was time for a change:
- Spurs are currently 14th in the league with no win in five games.
- They have only won three league games all season.
- No side has lost more point (12) from winning positions than Spurs this season.
- Brighton and Newcastle were two of the sides to beat them in the league.
- Colchester knocked them out of the Carabao Cup, in a game which featured Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lucas, Dier and six other first-teamers.
- Bayern beat them at home in the Champions League 7-2, the first time they have ever conceded seven in their history.
- They haven’t won an away game in the league since January!
This makes for awful reading for any Spurs fan and maybe Pochettinos time was up. He said over the summer that he felt he had taken the club as far as he could and that he needed more money. He got some money, bringing in Lo Celso and N’Dombele, but this still probably wasn’t as much as he was hoping for.

Daniel Levy: “I should like to thank Mauricio and his coaching staff for all they have contributed.”
Return of Mourinho
It feels like just yesterday we were breaking the news of Mourinho getting sacked and now it that he has a new job. His last one was at Manchester United, where after two and a half seasons he was sacked. The Special One came under much criticism as this, saying his tactics were dated and that he can only win by spending money.
Looking at this then, why did Spurs decide to make him their new manager? Mourinho has one of the most impressive CV’s out of any manager ever. He has eight seasons worth of Premier League experience plus three league titles to go with it.
To celebrate Mourinho’s appointment, Paddy Power have a load of specials available on their site! You can now back Spurs to win any trophy this season at what was 4/1 is now 11/2. Including this, there are other offers regarding players joining Spurs including Gareth Bale and Nemanja Matic.
Whether this was a piece of genius by Levy or an awful decision only time will tell. What’s for sure is that with Mourinho in charge, you can guarantee it’s going to be entertaining!
