Scottish Premiership Returns This Weekend!
After a break of 141 days, the Scottish Premiership returns this weekend with Celtic looking to make it ten titles in a row!
Just as the Premier League ended on Sunday, another league restarts. This Saturday will make the start of a new season in the Scottish Premiership after the last one was ended early in March. Last season Celtic made it nine league titles in a row after being awarded the league due to being 13 points clear of Rangers when the league came to a halt.
Hearts were relegated from the Scottish Premiership and this came with much controversy. With the season being finished early and them four points from safety with eight games to go, they could have stayed up. However, their appeal wasn’t successful yesterday and they are now in the Scottish Championship.
This season though should hopefully go the full 38 games. No fans will be present at any of the grounds this weekend and for the foreseeable. A date has yet to be confirmed as to when fans may return to grounds as well.
The 20/21 campaign looks set to be a very exciting one. It will hopefully be tight at the top and Celtic won’t run away with it as normal.
First Day Fixtures
The first game of the new season is Aberdeen vs Rangers at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon. The two clubs have a rivalry with each other after Aberdeen became one of Scotland’s best sides back in the 80s’ and 90s’. Gerrard’s side are the favourite for this one priced at 2/5 on Paddy Power. Last season Rangers finished two places and 22 points ahead of Aberdeen. Rangers were unbeaten in three meetings against Aberdeen last season, drawing two and winning one 5-0.
Newly promoted side Dundee United host St Johnstone in their first game back in the Scottish Premiership. St Johnston finished sixth in the league last season so go into this one favourite, just. Dundee are priced at 17/10 with St Johnstone at 13/8. However, St Johnstone managed just 36 points in 29 games last season, so aren’t exactly a force to be reconned with!
Finally, last seasons champions play Sunday at home against Hamilton. The away side finished second to bottom last season and the odds reflect this. Celtic are priced at 1/12 to win with Hamilton at 25/1. Last season Celtic came away with nine points out of nine against Hamilton and will be confident of getting off to a win this Sunday.
Title Odds
Celtic obviously go into this season as the favourites to win the title. Paddy Power have them priced at 4/9 to go and make it ten in ten. Even though last season they won it early, they would have gone on to win it being 13 points clear and in great form. Celtic have yet to strengthen their squad, but manager Neil Lennon has said he will be looking to.
Rangers are their closest competition at 7/4. Last season was Gerrards first season in charge of a side and now himself and Rangers will be used to each other. The Gers have some good players in their squad but will need to keep hold of them to have any chance of winning. Alfredo Morelos has attracted attention from a load of clubs around Europe. He has been fantastic for Rangers and would take some replacing.
Celtic Multiple Trophies 2020/21
Last season, Celtic won the double and then the treble the season before. There is no doubt Celtic have the quality to win all three. At 6/1 in Paddy Power, it’s a very interesting bet. Celtic will be the favourites in each of the three Scottish competitions and will be confident of going all the way. Considering they’ve done the treble before, there’s nothing to say they can’t do it again.
