Ronaldo scored a hat-trick on Saturday for Juventus to take his career total of competitions he’s scored hat-tricks in, to ten!
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest goalscorers in the history of football. He has won five Ballon d’Ors in his career as well as the Premier League and Champions League. Last season he moved to Serie A Champions Juventus after nine years at the club.
Since joining Juventus he had scored 31 goals in the league but hadn’t managed a hat-trick. However, this finally changed when his side faced Cagliari on the weekend. For a player who had 55 hat-tricks in his career up until this point, it was hard to believe it took him so long!
His first goal came from a mistake by ex Liverpool player Ragnar Klavan. He played the ball across the edge of the area which Ronaldo was quick to respond to. The Juventus forward then took it round the keeper and smashed it into the empty net.
Ronaldo’s second of the day came from the penalty spot. Dybala was brought down in the box after a good piece of skill. Ronaldo stepped up and converted the penalty, sending the keeper to the left and side-footing it into the right-hand side.
His third and most important goal of the game came in the 82nd minute. Douglas Costa picked Ronaldo out who was unmarked who then poked it underneath the goalkeeper with his left foot to get his first Serie A hat-trick. Ronaldo now joined Alexis Sanchez as only the second player in history to have scored a hat-trick in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
Ronaldo, top of the pile
This was Ronaldo’s 56th hat-trick of his career and the most scored by any player in the last 20 years. This is an incredible stat and even more mind-blowing considering he only managed one hat-trick at Man United. Ronaldo now has a hat-trick in 10 different competitions.
This now puts the Portuguese forward on 13 goals for the season. Ciro Immobile is leading the way in the Serie A with 19 goals and is the favourite to be at the top at the end of the season. Betfair has Immobile at 4/11 with Ronaldo second favourite at 5/1. It’ll be tough for Ronaldo to catch Immobile but its definitely something you wouldn’t bet against.
Juventus are currently top but on the same points as Inter Milan. Juve are the favourites to win the competition at 4/7 with Inter priced at 15/8 on Betfair.
