Manchester City regained the Premier League title last season from Liverpool, but can anyone stop them from retaining it this season?

It was English Premier League glory once again for Man City last season. They ended up finishing 12 points clear of neighbours Man United, in what was a fairly straightforward season towards the end.

Manchester City started off poorly and many thought that Peps time at the club could be coming to an end. However, his side showed why they are one of the best in the world and went on a 19 unbeaten run in the league. This put them right back at the top of the table and in control.

Pep has a very strong squad and it’s going to take a lot to beat them. Clubs are already starting to splash the cash and with fans back in the grounds this season, it could be one of the best to date. But who are favourites to be the Premier League winner this year in the betting odds?

Premier League 21/22 Odds (Paddy Power)

Man City – 10/11 – 3rd place – 17 points.

Last seasons winners were always going to be favourites to win the Premier League outright this season after finishing 12 points clear. They have now won three titles under Pep, both retaining and regaining so have lots of experience as a squad. On their day there aren’t many better teams in the world and the fact they started badly last season and still won will give them confidence.

Manchester City has a very strong squad and Pep likes to rotate it from week to week to keep players fresh and keen. They brought in Jack Grealish this summer for a staggering £100 million and also managed to keep hold of key players like Laporte and Bernardo who were rumoured to leave. Man City have a great squad and one that is more than capable of winning the league.

Peps side didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing to Spurs on the opening day. They were missing key players from their starting lineup so won’t look into it too much. They have since beaten Chelsea and drew with Liverpool. City are looking back to their best of late and will be confident of keeping their title.

Chelsea – 21/10 – 1st place – 19 points.

Winning the Champions League will have given Tuchel and his side a lot of confidence going into this season. Since his arrival, everyone’s game has improved at Chelsea and they have become an incredibly tough side to beat. Premier Leagues are often won by good defences and Tuchel has certainly improved Chelsea’s.

Last summer was a big one for signings at Chelsea bringing in Werner, Havertz, Chilwell and others. This summer they have been very active again. Lukaku has rejoined the club who should be the goalscorer they have been lacking. On top of this, they have brought in Saul Niguez from Atletico who is a fantastic midfielder.

Chelsea have dropped points in just two out of seven games, one of them being to Man City. They have conceded the least amount of goals so far in the league which will be huge in helping them try and win the title this season. Currently, both their strikers are out injured in Werner and Lukaku. It’ll be interesting to see what effect this has on them.

Liverpool – 7/2 – 2nd place – 18 points.

Last season was a tough one for Liverpool and they still somehow managed to get third in the table. You can’t really use last season as anything to go off this season due to the number of injuries they had. At one point they had four centre-backs and two makeshift centre-backs all injured. This year is a new season and they will be raring to go and win back the Premier League title.

When Liverpool have a full-strength squad out, they have shown they can beat anyone. They have signed Konate to help strengthen them at the back but don’t seem to be doing much more business. If they can keep this squad fit though, Klopp is more than capable are getting them to the top again.

Liverpool got off to a good start, beating Norwich 3-0. The game saw the return of Van Dijk, who makes this side a lot harder to beat. Salah looks at his best again, currently, the top scorer in the league with seven goals and the rest of the side looks in great form. At 7/2, we think this is a great price when comparing them to the other Premier League winners odds.

Man United – 33/1 – 6th place – 14 points.

Man Utd surprised themselves last season, let alone everyone else. They finished second in the table and at one point were first and in a title race for the first time in a few years. Solskjaer has improved them and instead of their aim just being top four now, it’ll be trying to get in a proper title race.

They have just signed Jadon Sancho who is finally going to be the right-sided player they have been after for years. United also signed Raphael Varane, which is a position they have been looking to strengthen for a long time. With a few days left of the window, they shocked everyone by bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back. He has signed for two seasons and will be a huge boost for the club.

For Manchester United to really put up a title fight, they are going to have to start picking up more points against the sides above them and stop dropping them against the bottom of the table sides. That being said no one other side got more points from losing positions than United did last season, so they don’t know when they are beaten!

They are on a poor run of form at the moment, with just one point in their last three games. They have a very tough run of fixtures coming up and could be out of the race completely very soon!

Tottenham – 200/1 5th place – 15 points

The North London side have got off to a good start this season, currently sitting in seventh place, but just one point off of Manchester United in first. Tottenham have a new manager for this season in Nuno Espirito Santo. He has joined them from Wolves and straight away you can see his aim is to make them more stable defensively.

Tottenham have never won the Premier League in their history, coming closest in 2016. They have a good enough squad to challenge with players like Son, Kane, Alli and have brought in some young exciting players this summer who will only strengthen them.

Now, we’re not saying they’re are going to go and win the Premier League outright by 20 odd points. However, no one ever fancied Leicester to win it when they did so! It’ll be a big ask for Spurs to win the Premier League, but when you have Harry Kane in your team then it is a possibility!

Teams With Outside Chances:

Arsenal –  12th place – 11 points (150/1) – The three time Premier League winners haven’t looked the same side since Wenger left. They do have some good players in their squad but the manager could be the biggest issue right now. A lot needs to change at the club for Arsenal to have any chance on finishing top.

West Ham – 7th place – 14 points (250/1) – David Moyes’ side have got off to a good start in the new Premier League season. They haven’t lost yet and look a very hard team to beat. When they have a full squad they can trouble anyone but it’s squad depth that could let West Ham down.

Leicester – 11th place – 11 points (500/1) – They won the Premier League back in 2016 but have struggled to get into the top four for the past couple of season. They have a good side and a good manager who can get results against the big teams. Consistency though will be their biggest issue.
