Premier League Top Scorer Odds 21/22
The Premier League season is back and BoyleSports have the latest odds for who is favourite to win the Golden Boot.
Now Euro 2020 is over, it’s time to look ahead to the Premier League season. The race for the Golden Boot is always very interesting, given the quality of players in the league. On top of this, all the big clubs are looking to bring in new players, which could mean there is a surprise player to look out for next season. Last season, the Golden Boot went right down to the final day again. Harry Kane ended up coming out on top with 23 goals, beating Mo Salah by one. This was Kane’s third Golden Boot, but his first since 2016/17.
This season we expect it to be as close as last year. All the top teams now have a player capable of finishing top goalscorer, but who do the BoyleSports think is the leading contender?
Premier League Top Scorer Odds (BoyleSports)
Mo Salah – 10 goals – 10/11
Since he was bought by Liverpool in 2017, no one has scored more goals in the Premier League than Mo Salah, winning him the Golden Boot twice. His lowest season was 19/20 with 19 goals and his highest being 32 in 17/18. Last season he missed out by just one goal and it was considered a poor season for him…
At Liverpool, he is also the penalty taker and has a record of scoring his last 16. Salah took over 120 shots last season and hit the target 51 times. He is involved in everything Liverpool do and with them having a fully fit squad again this season, surely he will only get more chances to score. Right now, he is the best player in the world and showed everyone this with a hat-trick away at Man United.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 3 goals – 5/1
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has returned to the Premier League and to Man United. He is still scoring goals for fun, with 29 last season at Juventus. Ronaldo is 36 but is still more than capable of playing every game for United and will most likely want to.
He has won the Golden Boot before back in 2007/08 when he scored 31 goals in just 34 games. Given that the most amount of goals scored by one player in the last five years is 23, Ronaldo will fancy himself to finish top this season. United have been crying out for an out-and-out goalscorer and they now have one in CR7. He got two on his debut in a 4-1 home win against Newcastle.
Romelu Lukaku – 3 goals – 7/1
The ex-Man United and Chelsea’s striker has returned to the London club after two years at Inter Milan. He cost a staggering £97.5 million and comes with a big reputation after performing well in Italy.
Lukaku is an experienced Premier League striker with 113 goals in 252 performances. Chelsea have signed him as they are in need of a goalscorer, with Jorginho finishing their highest in the league last season with seven! His new club created the most chances last season and if Lukaku can perform as he did in Milan, he will be up there with Salah and Kane.
Jamie Vardy – 7 goals – 10/1
At 34 years of age, Vardy is still as prolific as he has ever been. He won the Golden Boot back in 2019/20 when he finished the season on 22 goals. Last season wasn’t his best and he still managed to score 15 goals, which tells you everything you need to know about the Leicester striker.
This season he has started it better than ever with six in his first seven games. Leicester aren’t playing so well themselves but Vardy is still performing. The Foxes will likely improve this season and that can only be a benefit for him. He has shown he doesn’t need to be at the best team to be the best goalscorer in the league and could do it again this season.
Harry Kane – 1 goal – 12/1
Last years Golden Boot winner isn’t having the best of starts to this year. He was fantastic in 20/21 and even finished top of the assist charts. Kane has decided to stay at Spurs this season and has shown he can score a lot of goals in this side.
He is yet to score in the opening seven games and will need to start soon before the others pull away. That being said, we have seen him go on great goalscoring runs. Spurs have some good games coming up, where Kane will fancy his chances to get this season up and running.
Outside chances:
Michail Antonio – 6 goals – 25/1 – West Hams star man has had a fantastic start to the season. He can be a problem for any defence it’s just whether his side can keep creating chances for him throughout the season.
Bruno Fernandes – 4 goals – 40/1 – Man United’s starman over the past two years is proving a hit in front of goal again. He is yet to score a penalty too, which is something he was so prolific with last season so who knows.
Diogo Jota – 4 goals – 33/1 – Liverpools Portuguese forward has had a good start to the season, scoring in both games. He has now got himself into the starting eleven and is taking his chance.
