Pochettino Number One Target For Newcastle

Amidst the potential takeover that is happening at Newcastle United, Mauricio Pochettino has been identified as the number one target to be the manager!

For many years now, there have been rumours of a take over at Newcastle. Fans have wanted owner Mike Ashley to stand down due to years of poor decisions.

The billionaire, who made his fortune through sportswear company Sports Direct, bought Newcastle in 2007. It cost Ashley £135 million to buy the whole club. Fans at first liked him as he seemed to be one of them, watching the game and drinking in the local pubs.

Since then though it has gone bad to worse for the owner. He has been through many managers and hasn’t backed them in transfer windows. Ashley has since said in an interview that he regrets buying the club.

Newcastle is a huge club none the less and now a Saudi consortium is trying to buy them for £300 million. This is exciting times for Newcastle as they have been linked with some incredible players.

On top of this, they are now being linked with ex-Spurs manager Pochettino. The Argentinian took Spurs to last years Champions League final but was sacked at the start of this season. Since then, he has been linked with a move to Man United but nothing has materialised.

The Saudi consortium is thought to have said that Pochettino is the number one choice to take over at Newcastle. He is priced at 10/11 with Paddy Power to be their next manager.

With Pochettino in charge, this would help the club with transfers. He will attract some of the best players around the world as he has shown he is a good manager. Firstly though, Newcastle need to get the new takeover completed!

Who else could be in charge?

Rafa Benitez is another name being mentioned to take over at Newcastle. He has managed Newcastle before, from 2016-2019. On top of this, he has experience in managing some of the biggest clubs in the world. He won the Champions League at Liverpool and went on to manage Inter, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid.

Benitez is priced at 5/1 to take over and that could be a great bet. Pochetinno may be holding out for the Man United job, and Benitez already knows the club well. For new owners, an experienced manager who knows how things run would be ideal.

Another manager tipped for a return is Kevin Keegan. The Newcastle legend would be a fantastic appointment for the fans and what a way to win them over that would be. He hasn’t managed since he was last in charge on Newcastle back in 2008. This could be the only worrying part for the new owners, the fact he’s been out of football for so long.

Marcelo Bielsa is another name at 20/1. Bielsa is currently in charge of Leeds but nearly left them last season. He is well respected within the world of management and has helped turn Leeds into a good team again. However, with football currently at a holt, Leeds may not go up next season. A move to Newcastle could be Bielsa’s only chance of managing in the Premier League.
