Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur head to eighth tier side Marine in the Third Round of The FA Cup as the draw puts some Premier League sides against each other!

The draw for the Third Round of The FA Cup took place yesterday. There are 64 teams left in the competition, ranging from the Premier League, right down to the eighth tier of football, The National League North. The games will take place from the 8th-11th of January.

In this round, all the Premier League teams enter so it can bring out some exciting draws for clubs from the lower leagues who have managed to stay in. Chorley (tier six) and Marine (tier eight) are to two lowest clubs left in this year’s FA Cup.

Marine got through to the Third Round thanks to a goal in the 120th minute against Havant & Waterloo. This is only the second time a team from this level has made it to this stage of the FA Cup. Marine were awarded a home tie against none other than Spurs to set up the biggest came in their history. Unfortunately for the hosts, it wasn’t away as this would have been an amazing experience for everyone involved at the club. However, it does mean some of the home fans will get to see Jose Mourinho in their ground along with some Premier League players.

Chorley were drawn against Derby, again at home. This isn’t as big a draw as Marine’s one however it does put the home side up against some very good players and they may even play against Wayne Rooney, should he not still be the caretaker manager at the time.

FA Cup Odds

The favourites for this year’s competition is Pep Guardiola’s side, Man City. They are at 11/4 to win and are the shortest-priced side by a long way. City last won the competition in 2019, beating Watford 6-0 in the final. They take on Birmingham in the next round in what should be a pretty straight forward game for City. Pep’s side has the luxury of having such a good squad and in competitions like this, he can put out teams which can have one player worth more than the whole oppositions starting 11!

Spurs, who take on Marine, are the second favourites this year at 7/1. They haven’t won the FA Cup since 1991 when they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1. Spurs are desperate to win a trophy, likewise is Mourinho. The Premier League may be a step too far but this would be fantastic for Mourinho to win a trophy in his first full season in charge.

Chelsea are priced the same as Spurs at 7/1 and we think this are also a good bet, just like Mourinho’s side. They take on Morecombe at Stamford Bridge, which should be a fairly straightforward game. Lampard will be under pressure to win something this season after spending so much money in the summer. He is also yet to win a trophy in his managerial career and could see this as a good chance to get his first one.

Finally, is Liverpool at 8/1. Klopp’s side are always tough to call in this competition as he makes it no secret that he favours the Premier League and Champions League over it. They could quite easily win this competition however Klopp will usually field a very inexperienced side. Liverpool have been drawn against Aston Villa in the next round and Dean Smiths side will fancy their chances, especially after beating them 7-2 already this season!
