An emphatic 4-0 win over second-place Leicester has seen Liverpool take a huge step towards winning their first Premier League title
Last night Liverpool visited Leicester in a top of the table clash. This was a huge game for Man City as well as the two sides involved in it. Liverpool went into it with a ten-point lead at the top with City 11 points behind them.
The visitors were in top form going into this game. They had won their last eight Premier League games as well as the Club World Cup last weekend. Leicester, on the other hand, weren’t in such good form. They had just lost to Man City and drew to Norwich the game before that.
Klopp and Liverpool knew a win here was massive and that it would put at least one hand on the trophy.
Leicester vs Liverpool
From the start, you could tell Liverpool were up for it and were on top of Leicester. They looked their most dangerous when they would counter-attack as the hosts could handle their pace.
Salah had the first chance of the game when he went round the keeper but ended up hitting the side netting. Liverpool though broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Firmino. Alexander-Arnold putting in another fantastic ball for Firmino to head home.
The game was 1-0 at half time and the next goal was vital. Leicester was pushing for it and looked like they would get one but for a handball by Soyuncu ending their hopes. He handled it inside his own box and Milner converted the penalty with his first touch of the game.
This gave Klopp’s side the confidence to go on and they got two more. Firmino getting his second and Alexander-Arnold getting his second assist. The right-back also got the fourth with a fantastic first-time shot.
One hand on the title?
This win has now point Liverpool 13 points clear at the top. Considering they have dropped just two points all season, it would be a huge surprise if they lost it now.
Liverpool are now priced at 1/12 to win the league with Betway and City are at 7/1. The two sides do have to play each other again but it’s going to need City to also not drop a point all season too.
Klopp’s side seems to be coping well with the busy festive period and should they get through it ok, then it will be plain sailing here on in.
