Italy First Side Into Euro 2020 Final

Italy beat Spain in the semi-finals of the European Championships last night, to be the first side confirmed for this Sunday’s final!

Coming into the Euro’s Italy weren’t one of the favorites, with France, England, Spain, Germany, and Belgium all at shorter odds. Now though, with their place booked in the final, they are the favorites.

Italy have come a long way, especially after missing out on qualifying for the last World Cup. They reached the final of the Euro’s back in 2012, losing to Spain, so last night’s game will have felt like revenge.

This summer has been very impressive from The Azurri. They won all three group games, without conceding a goal and haven’t conceded more than once in any game. On top of this, they have had to beat both Belgium and Spain who at the start of the tournament were seen as better sides.

Last night’s performance was an impressive one from Italy, considering they didn’t see much of the ball. They defended well and when the pressure was on, they stood up to it and got themselves to the final.

They will be hoping for Denmark this Sunday, but if they play how they have done this summer, they will still be confident facing England!

With Italy already in the final, they are obviously the favorites with Betfair to win the competition now, priced at 5/6. Depending on who gets through in the other semi-final, this will change. If England goes through it will likely increase but should Denmark pull off a shock win, it’ll drop.

Italy have a good record in finals over the years. They have been to nine finals in total. Six World Cups, with four wins and three European Championships, with one win.

When it comes to playing England, Italy have the upper hand. They have played each other 27 times, with Italy winning 11 and losing eight. However, the last two meetings have ended in a draw.

Italy have an even better record when it comes to playing Denmark. In 12 meetings, they have won eight and only lost twice. The last time they met though was in 2013 and the game ended a draw.

They will be grateful for the extra day’s rest compared to the two teams tonight, especially given that they went to penalties last night and with the likes of Chiellini and Bonnucci so integral to their squad it’ll be very important.
