Premier League clubs submitted their final 25 man squads for the season yesterday with some big names missing out and one returning!
Each clubs has a strict list of rules to follow when submitting their squads for the season. The maximum amount of players that can be submitted is 25. On top of this, clubs can have players registered on an u-21 list who can also play. For example, Man United have put Mason Greenwood on that list as it allows them to add an extra player in their 25 man squad but Greenwood can still play.
The 25 man squads were finalised yesterday and it brought about some very interesting selections!
Petr Cech Back In The Premier League
Chelsea added Petr Cech to their 25 man squad yesterday. Cech made his name at Chelsea and last played for them in 2014/15 before he moved to Arsenal. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history and holds the record for the most amount of clean sheets with 202.
Cech retired at the end of the 2018/19 season and became Chelsea’s Technical and Performance Director. However, he has apparently kept himself fit and takes part in keeper training from time to time. Lampard yesterday said he was added to the squad as emergency cover in case anything happened to Kepa, Mendy or Caballero. Since he has been back in training he has been really impressive apparently, amazing players and coaches with his ability after not playing for over a year and a half.
Chelsea will be hoping they don’t need to call upon the four-time Premier League winner. However, his experience could be vital is the team priced at 14/1 get themselves in a title race.

Ozil Out Of Another Squad
Things just go from bad to worse for the German playmaker. His last appearance for Arsenal was back in March and since then he hasn’t got himself into the squad again. Arteta has made it no secret that he has no plans for getting Ozil back in the team and shown this when was left out of their Europa League squad.
Yesterday, he was also left out of their Premier League squad, along with Sokratis. Since his 2015/16 season where he registered 19 assists, he hasn’t been anywhere near that level. Ozil has one year left on his contract, in which he earns a staggering £350,000 per week!
The Premier League may be to fast for the ageing midfielder now, but the Europa League could have been a chance for Arsenal to get the last out of Ozil. Arsenal are the favourites for the competition at 7/1 along with rivals Spurs.
Quiet Season Ahead For Jones And Romero
At Old Trafford, Phil Jones and Sergio Romero were the latest two to be at the end of Solskjaers clear out. Both of them weren’t included in United’s Champions League squads and yesterday weren’t in their Premier League squads. Phil Jones comes as no surprise after having made just eight appearances last season and United willing to let him leave this summer.
Romero on the other hand came as a shock. United currently have four goalkeepers at the club, De Gea, Henderson, Romero and Grant. The latter joined United from Stoke for £1.5 million but has never featured in the Premier League for them. Romero has played 61 times for Man United and impressed a lot of the fans with some great performances in the Europa League. With Henderson back at the club, it was clear Romero’s time as number two was up. Everton tried to sign him but United wouldn’t allow him to go to a potential rival and so he had to stay. It looks as if this one could end a bit sour after Romero having a good time at the club prior.
