Henry Sacked by Monaco
Thierry Henry took charge of a struggling Monaco side in October 2018 as everyone held high hopes for the Frenchman’s firsts managerial role. Monaco sat 20th in Ligue 1 when Henry took over for Leonardo Jardim and not much has changed in the three month period. The Arsenal legend has won just two of Monaco’s twelve league matches and the fans haven’t seen a home win since May last season.
Following their most recent home defeat to Strasbourg, the Monaco board have suspended Henry until they can finalize a decision on his future. Strasbourg left the Stade Louis with a 5-1 win which decreased Monaco’s goal difference to -17. Monaco looks to replace Henry but the candidate looks somewhat familiar.
Reintroducing Leonardo Jardim who has been out of work recently as you would have assumed. The same boss Henry took over from, the manager who put Monaco in this mess at the beginning of the season. The board must be short of applicants as trying to turn round Monaco’s season at this point could prove impossible. They lay only two points below safety which is not the chief issue in resurrecting the team. The players don’t seem to have it at the moment, they’re missing the drive and if the defence doesn’t sort itself out, they’ll be in Ligue 2 by May. Thierry put a light on the issue with his players and he made a very notable statement in saying ‘We need guys who want to save the club, who don’t think about themselves. We’re going to war.’
By the sounds of things, Henry is the only one with any passion left. For Monaco to replace a replacement they replaced, sounds about as ridiculous as it is. Give Henry until the end of the season and then make a judgement, which would still be unfair as Leonardo already tainted their league campaign.
PaddyPower is offering Henry to return to Sky football punditry at 3/1, to take a role as an assistant manager at 5/2 and finally, to manage at any club 11/2. It could take a while for Henry to get an opportunity like this again and unfortunately, it was a matter of the wrong place at the wrong time.
