Kai Havertz scored the only goal in Saturday’s match, as Chelsea beat Man City in the final of the Champions League!

Chelsea and Man City met in Porto on Saturday, with the winner getting their hands on the Champions League trophy. It was the second all-English final in just three years, with Liverpool beating Spurs back in 2019.

Man City were the favorites for the final, having won the Premier League and League Cup this season. They have the best squad in Europe but didn’t have a Champions League to their name.

However, Chelsea were confident that they could do the job. They had already beaten Chelsea twice this season, both times under new manager Thomas Tuchel. He has turned his side around to now make them extremely hard to beat, with just four losses in all competitions since he took over!

Going into the game, both sides were at full strength in terms of squads. Over 14,000 fans were in attendance at the Estádio do Dragão, with both sides looking to go one better than Man United did in the mid-week and end the season with a European trophy.

The first real chance of the game fell to Sterling after just seven minutes. Ederson with another fantastic pass found him in behind, but a combination of a bad touch and good defending by Reece James saw the attack not go any further.

Chelsea replied straight away with a chance of their own, but Werner couldn’t sort his feet out and missed the ball as he was just eight yards out. This set the tone for the majority of the match with it being end to end. Werner had another chance minutes later but couldn’t get enough power on it to trouble Ederson.

Both sides found themselves in and around the opposition’s area a lot, but the final ball was missing most of the time.

The deadlock though was broken in the 42nd minute. Havertz was played in and found himself one on one. He took the ball around the oncoming Ederson and was left with an empty net to pass the ball into and give his side the lead.

The second half couldn’t have started much worse for Pep’s side. De Bruyne collided with Rudiger and was forced to go off in what turned out to be a fractured cheekbone and broken nose! City kept knocking but time and time again Chelsea answered with good defending.

Pulisic had a great chance to wrap it up when he had just the keeper to beat, but his shot went just wide of the post. In the end, this didn’t matter and Chelsea heald on to a memorable victory and kept Citys wait for a Champions League going!
