Harry Maguire Named As New Man United Captain

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed today that Harry Maguire will be the new captain of Manchester United after Ashley Youngs departure

Last night it was confirmed that Man United and Inter Milan had come to an agreement for the sale of Ashley Young. The winger turned full-back will head to Italy today for his medical with Conte’s side. United will receive €1.5 million for Young.

As Young was the official club captain it meant that a new one needed to be picked. Solskjaer today confirmed in his press conference that Maguire would be the man to take the armband. This may come as a surprise to some fans as De Gea has worn the armband a lot over his career.

Maguire joined Man United in the summer for a staggering £80 million. This is the world-record fee for a defender. Since joining the club has played in every minute of the Premier League for them. United have had four clean sheets this season, not as many as they would have hoped for but Maguire has brought more stability to the defence.

The England centre-back has also worn the armband seven times this season in the league. This is a huge decision made by Solskjaer to make him captain, especially considering he’s only played 29 times for them.

Maguire To Life Silverware In First Season?

Man United’s main aim this season will be to qualify for the Champions League next season. If they can do this it will help them massively in terms of finances and signing players in the summer.

However, they are currently five points off of the top four and Betway have them priced a fair bit out at 3/1 to get there. There best chance maybe to win the Europa League. They have drawn Club Brugge in the next round. United are the favourite’s to win the competition at 11/2 and it would be a fantastic first six months of being captain for Maguire.

In the FA Cup, they have drawn the winner of Watford and Tranmere. It took them two legs to get through against Wolves and are at 12/1 to go all the way.

Even though United are in the best run of form it’s still an exciting time for Maguire. There are three possible competitions for them to win and Maguire to lift the trophy as captain of Man United.
