Five Years Of Jurgen Klopp

Klopp 5 Years

Five years ago today Liverpool signed Jurgen Klopp and it’s been a road of ups and downs but they are now one of the best sides in the world

Liverpool are now up there with the very best teams in the world and it’s down to the appointment of Jurgen Klopp. Just over five years ago, Liverpool were going through a tough time in the league. Rodgers had won just one out of the opening nine games, whilst drawing five of their last game 1-1 after going 1-0 up.

This lead to Rodgers being sacked straight after the Merseyside derby. Klopp had just finished his contract at Dortmund and took over at Liverpool who were in 10th place. Since then it has been a very entertaining time for Liverpool fan’s and it is now finally paying off.

As he has been there for five years, he is now the longest-serving manager in the Premier League! Pep Guardiola is the closest to him with four years and 98 days. Klopp has four years left on his contract at Liverpool and has said he will leave when it runs out.

From 10th Place To Champions

In his first season, Liverpool finished in 8th place, two places below where they finished the season before. However, the club was going through huge changes at the time and Klopp was working out who to keep and who to sell.

However, he did guide them to a Europe League and League Cup final that season. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t to be the dream start and Liverpool lost both of them, 3-1 to Sevilla and on penalties to Man City.

Klopp then took Liverpool to another European final in 2017/18. They played Real Madrid and were beaten 3-1 with Gareth Bale scoring an unbelievable overhead kick. This was a third final loss for Klopp whilst at Liverpool.

The year after though, he went one better and won the Champions League, beating Spurs 2-0 in the final. This was Liverpool’s sixth Champions League final win and Klopp’s first trophy at the club. Liverpool also finished second in the league that season, one point behind Man City.

This win put Liverpool right back at the top of the footballing world. Klopp followed it up with their first-ever Premier League title last season. He has got Liverpool playing some fantastic football and has turned good players into fantastic players. But with a Premier League title under their belt, what can they do next?

What Next For Klopp And Liverpool?

Liverpool will be confident of retaining the Premier League and are currently joint-favourites with Man City to win the league. Both sides are priced at 6/5 and Liverpool won’t be worried about Man City after having finished 18 points ahead of them last season. However, they will be hoping Sunday’s 7-2 loss to Aston Villa was just a blip!

The Champions League is something Klopp would love to win again and he is very capable of doing so. They are 11/2 with only City and Bayern, both at 4/1, priced shorter. Liverpool were given a favourable group stage draw with Ajax, Atalanta and FC Midtjylland. They should get out of the group with ease and then look to get through the knockout stages. On their day they can beat anyone in Europe, however with Anfield currently not being allowed to have any fans in will they do as well?

The final competition they are still in is the FA Cup. Liverpool are priced at 11/2 and this is probably because Klopp favours the Premier League and Champions League. He has never won this competition and would like to, but won’t field strong teams in it if he has a big game coming up.
