FIFA Club World Cup 2019 – Who’s In It?

The FIFA Club World Cup starts on Wednesday and were going to go through all the teams who will be trying to stop Liverpool winning the competition.

Every year, the winners of the six continental federation tournaments come together for the FIFA Club World Cup. They are also joined by the winner of the host nations league.

The competition has been running for 15 years, with some of the biggest teams in the world winning it. Real Madrid are the most successful club in its history, having won it four times in 2014, 16, 17 and 18.

This year and next years tournament is being held in Qatar. This is being used as a trial run for the 2022 World Cup, to see if they can host a football tournament.

We’ll look at each team heading to Qatar along with how they are priced on Paddy Power.

Liverpool (3/10)

The biggest team every year at the Club World Cup is always the Champions League winners. Liverpool came away 2-0 winners in June against Spurs in Madrid. They are the favourites to win this competition despite having a Carabao Cup game the day before. They are entering in at the semi-finals which will be played on the 18th December and the final on the 21st.

Flamengo (16/5)

The only other well-known team in the competition are the 2019 Copa Libertadores winners. Flamengo have never been to this competition before but will be the seventh Brazilian club to go. They won the Copa Libertadores thanks to ex-Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa. The Brazilian bagged two in the last five minutes to win the competition. Like Liverpool, they are playing their first game in the semi-finals.

Monterrey (22/1)

Mexican side Monterrey will be joining the competition in the second round. They won the 2019 CONCACAF Champions Leauge and this will be the first time since 2012 they’ve been in the tournament. No Mexican team have ever reached the final and Monterrey will be looking to change that.

Al-Hilal (25/1)

The Saudi Arabian side won the 2019 Asian Football Confederation Champions League. Al-Hilal will enter the competition in the second round. In their squad, they have ex-Premier Leauge striker Bafétimbi Gomis and ex-Seria A striker Sebastian Giovinco.

Al Sadd (40/1)

The team from Qatar qualified for the competition by winning the Qatar Stars Leauge in 2018/19. They will have good support in this competition and who knows how far that could take them! Al Sadd will be in the opening game of this year’s Club World Cup.

Esperance de Tunis (60/1)

The Tunisian side won the Confederation of African Football Champions League to qualify for the competition. Like Monterrey, no one from their country has won this competition before. As long as they avoid Liverpool until the final then they could be a huge outsider.

Hienghene Sport (500/1)

The 2019 Oceania Confederation Football Champions League winners are from New Caledonia, a French Overseas Territory. They have played in the French Cup, a 10,000-mile round trip and have been beaten twice. They will play Al Sadd in the first game of the tournament.
