Everton Embarrassed By Liverpool “Reserves” In FA Cup
Everton were beaten once again by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday but this time it was by a weakened side missing many of their first-team players
On Sunday afternoon Liverpool hosted Everton for a Merseyside Derby in the FA Cup. This was a huge chance for Everton to finally beat Liverpool at Anfield having not done for 20 years. Klopp has made it no secret he’s not bothered about cup competitions, especially when he played the reserves in the Carabao Cup.
Initially, Liverpool were the favourites for the game, but once the line-ups were announced this changed. Klopp fielded a side that had three teenagers in it and didn’t include Mane, Salah, Firmino, Alisson and Van Dijk to name a few. In total there were nine changes to their side compared to the one that played on the weekend.
Everton started the much better of the two sides and dominated the first half. They had big chances through Calvert-Lewin and Holgate. Calvert-Lewin forced Adrian into a great save with his feet and Holgate header the ball straight at him. Liverpool couldn’t really create anything the first half and it looked a matter of time before Everton would score.
At half time Klopp didn’t make any changes though and kept his trust in his young side. In the second half, it completely flipped and it was now Liverpool who were dominating. Everton seemed to be lacking any energy and were looking a different side to the one from the first half.
Liverpool kept pressing but couldn’t open the scoring. With 15 minutes to go, it looked as if it would be a replay until Curtis Jones stepped up. He got the ball on the edge of the area and bent it straight into the top right corner giving Pickford no chance. The Anfield crowd went wild and Liverpool saw the game out to beat Everton once again!
Liverpool going for the treble
It appears as if the title is now wrapped up with Liverpool 13 points ahead of Man City. They are 1/33 on Betway to win the league with Man City at 14/1. This now leaves Liverpool looking for the Champions League trophy again. After winning it last season and arguably the best team in the world right now, they are the favourites for that competition also.
Both Liverpool and Man City are priced at 4/1 on Betway. This could change though depending on what happens in the January transfer window. Should Liverpool win this that would leave the FA Cup left in the treble.
Even though Klopp didn’t seem like he wanted to win with his team selection, he can’t help but be pleased to be in the next round. The draw is done tonight and Liverpool are the second favourites for it at 9/2 with Man City leading the way at 5/2.
