With most of the football leagues across Europe now postponed, UEFA has followed and put Euro 2020 back a year to 2021!
With the current issue of coronavirus affecting club football around the world, people were wondering what would happen with Euro 2020. None of the football leagues in Europe had been completed leaving many clubs unaware of their future next season.
The seasons need to be finished to decide who wins, who gets a promotion and who gets relegated. Initially, the idea was to play the games behind closed doors. This came under criticism due to managers and players feeling matches shouldn’t be played without fans.
On top of this, footballers and managers were now catching the virus, meaning whole teams were going into isolation. Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odio are just two examples of this.
As a result, UEFA called a meeting today to decide what would happen going forward. This meeting is yet to be concluded, but the Norwegian FA has tweeted saying that Euro 2020 will move to next year, starting Euro 2021.

Tournament favourites (Betway)
England – 5/1
With the tournament being pushed back a year, this means England now have time to get their best players back. Rashford and Kane are both injured and were looking doubtful for this summer. On top of this, it gives Southgate another year to try and work out his best defence. There are many question marks around the back five, mainly at left-back and in goal. This added time is only going to help England in terms of selection.
Belgium – 11/2
Like England, Belgium has one of their main attacking threats in Hazard currently injured. Their squad though is full of fantastic players and they beat England twice in the World Cup. They will go into next years tournament confident of going all the way. With players such as Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku to name a few, they could beat anyone on their day.
France – 6/1
20218’s World Cup winners will go into next years competition confident of adding another trophy to their collection. Their squad depth is unrivalled with many top-class players in each position. The team, unlike others, have the experience of winning a competition now. This will be vital for them in the competition and will help them massively if they progress to the later stages.
Netherlands – 7/1
The Netherlands last won the Euro’s in 1988. They didn’t qualify for Euro 2016 so will be ready to make their mark in this next one. They have one of the worlds best defenders in Van Dijk in their squad, who has shown how much of an impact he can have on a team since joining Liverpool. They were beaten in last years Nations League final but will be more prepared come next June.
