After bringing in some big names this summer and more supposedly on the way, could Frank Lampard’s Chelsea be the ones to watch this season?

Last season was Lampard’s first in charge of Chelsea. After doing a good jo at Derby and taking them to the Play-Off Final, he was then given the job he always wanted, in charge of his beloved Chelsea. Lampard played for them for 14 years, scoring 211 goals for them.

His first season in charge was a fairly successful one. He got Chelsea back into the top four, whilst taking them to the FA Cup final. However, this isn’t enough for Lampard and those in charge of the club. Since their season came to an end, they have been very busy in the transfer market.

Hakim Ziyech has now joined them after they agreed a deal in January for him to join in summer. The Ajax winger cost €40 million. Their first signing of the summer was sort after striker Timo Werner. The German goalscorer joined Chelsea for £47.5 million after it looked like he was destined for Liverpool. He will be expecting to challenge for the Golden Boot in 20/21.

Chelsea hasn’t stopped there though. They have apparently agreed a deal for Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva on a free transfer. Another German superstar in Kai Havertz looks set to join for a staggering €100 million, whilst Ben Chilwell could be the next through the door for around £50 million.

This sort of business is exciting for Chelsea fans and fans of the Premier Leauge. They will have a fantastic squad with these players joining the already good squad Chelsea have. The question is though, how far can they go next season?

Chelsea 20/21 Odds (Bet365)

Lampard’s sides main aim this season will be The Premier Leauge. Even though they finished 33 points off top spot last season, they will be hoping these new signings can bridge that gap. Chelsea are priced at 9/1 for The Premier Leauge, the lowest they will have been for a few seasons. This price is only likely to drop if they keep on spending money as they have been during this window. It’s a big ask for them to win the league, however, they have brought in some real quality whereas City and Liverpool still haven’t added to their squads yet.

The Champions League is an even bigger ask at 22/1, but it is all dependent on the draw they get. In knockout football any side can win and if Chelsea gets a good draw then who knows. Obviously you need a bit of luck to win these competitions but in the Champions League, there is always an underdog who goes further than expected.

The competitions where there could be real value is in the FA Cup (8/1) and the EFL Cup (10/1). Now these won’t be Chelsea’s main aims going into the season, but with all the spending that Lampard’s done, there will be pressure on him to win something. Given that not many names have left Chelsea yet they will also have a good squad which will help them progress in these competitions. Spending over £150 million will come with the expectation of trophies and it might be the cup competitions in which they come from!
