The Champions League quarter-finals take places this week with the new one leg format for this season only!
The new Champions League format starts this week in Lisbon. Each of the legs are one game each and in a neutral ground for the 19/20 campaign. The first game starts this Wednesday and it will be one game each night, with the semi-finals taking place next Tuesday.
In the last round, some big teams were knocked out. Juventus lost on away goals to Lyon, Real Madrid were beaten by Man City and Chelsea lost 7-1 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.
Two hurdles from the final. Who makes it? 🤷♂️

Atalanta vs PSG
Two of the highest scorers in Europe take each other on in the first quarter-final of this year’s Champions League. Atalanta scored 98 league goals this season and PSG 75 in a shortened version of their league. We expect there to be lots of goals in this game even with Kylian Mbappe suspected to be. PSG are the favourites to qualify at 8/15. We fancy them to have too much for Atalanta and get the job done in 90 minutes at 11/10. Atalanta are at 11/5 though to win in normal time and have shown they can be a free-scoring side.
RB Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid
We can see this game being a very close affair. Atletico have a very solid defence and Leipzig are now without their main man Timo Werner who has just joined Chelsea. Simeone’s side will be confident of getting through considering they beat Liverpool in the previous round. We can’t see there being a lot of goals in this but fancy Atletico to make it to the semi-finals at 8/11 to qualify.
Barcelona vs Bayern Munich
The game of the round is definitely this one. A few years ago it would have been Barcelona we would have been saying are of of the favourites for the competition, but this year its Bayern Munich. The German side comes into this leg after beating Chelsea 7-1. However, Barca are still a very good side and shouldn’t be overlooked. As it’s one leg we’re going to go with Barca beating the side that are 3/1 to win the Champions Leauge. They looked good in the last game and if Messi is on form, can anyone stop him?
Man City vs Lyon
The one game we are fully confident of calling is this one. Man City have looked very good since they returned and this is probably their best chance of winning the Champions League. Lyon has just got through against Juventus but this was based on away goals. Pep’s squad is fantastic and they should have far too much for Lyon. At 1/4 to win in 90 minutes, we can’t see it going any other way.
