The first final of the season takes place this weekend, with Man City taking on Spurs in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley!

This weekend, Man City are looking to defend their Carabao Cup title against Spurs. Peps side has won it for the last three years and will be wanting to match Liverpool’s record of four in a row, back in the early 80s.

The final was meant to take place in February as it does every year. However, it was pushed back to allow for fans to attend the match. There will be 8,000 fans in total at Wembley on Sunday. 2,000 tickets will be allocated to City and Spurs fans, whilst the remaining 4,000 are going to NHS workers.

City have beaten some big teams en route to this years final. They beat their neighbours Man United in the semi-final, after overcoming Arsenal 4-1 in the quarter-final. Spurs have had a slightly easier run into Wembley, beating Brentford in the semis and Stoke in the quarters. They did however beat Chelsea on penalties in the earlier rounds of the competition.

Last years final took place between City and Aston Villa, with Peps side coming out eventual winners beating Dean Smiths side 2-1. It wasn’t one that will go down in history as the most entertaining, with all the goals coming in the first half. However, it was a very professional performance by the seven-time winners.

Carabao Cup Final 2021 Preview

Man City

Last years winners are 1/2 to win the game inside 90 minutes and 1/4 to lift the cup. They have made this competition their own now and haven’t lost a game in it for four seasons. City have the benefit of having a huge squad so can play near enough a fresh 11 from their last game and still have a great chance of winning the match.

Peps side have conceded just once in their last three finals and are 7/5 to win to nil. The last time City played Spurs in the league, they won 3-0 which is 9/1 currently. City should win this game and we think they will. They have lots of experience when it comes to playing at Wembley and winning trophies is second nature to their manager!

Spurs

This is Spurs’ first final in since the Champions League in 2018/19 and the last time in this final was in 2015 against Chelsea, both of which they lost. Spurs last final win was in 2008 when they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the EFL Cup final. It would be huge for them if they could get this one over the line and stop the 13 year wait for silverware.

Spurs are 9/2 to win inside 90 minutes and 10/3 to lift the cup. It’s going to be a big ask, especially as Jose Mourinho has just been sacked as manager and Ryan Mason is in temporary charge. However, Spurs have beaten Man City once already this season, winning 2-0 at home. They will need Harry Kane to be fit to give them any chance but in a final, it’s anyone’s game and City were beaten last weekend at Wembley by Chelsea!
