Tranmere caused an FA Cup upset last night when they beat Watford, but can then do another Sunday when they host Man United at Prenton Park?
The Third Round of The FA Cup was finally concluded last night when Tranmere hosted Premier League Watford. The two sides drew 3-3 in the first leg when Tranmere came from 3-0 down in the second half.
The replay was meant to take place last week when all the other ones did. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to play the game. Tranmere’s pitch is in bad condition as it is and Storm Brendan hit the UK and cause the game to be called off.
Tranmere hosted Watford eventually last night and the visitors would be playing a weakened side. This was their second game in two days, as they played Aston Villa on Tuesday night. Watford, who were last years finalists, was the favourite for the game.
The hosts started off the better of the two sides and created several good chances. They finally made it pay in the 36th minute when Monthe scored for the home said. He got one back for his side in the first leg.
Watford got one back through youngster Hinds in the 68th minute. Tranmere struggled to clear the ball and the visitors smashed it home into the bottom right corner.
Tranmere had a chance to win before the final whistle. Mullin went around the keeper but hit the post. However, this didn’t come back to haunt them as they got a winner in the 104th minute with Mullin finally getting his goal. A simple ball in fell to him at the back post for him to convert and send Tranmere through to host Man United.
Can Tranmere do a double upset?
Man United are currently 60 places above Tranmere across the football leagues. However, given their recent form, this could get a lot smaller in the coming years!
Form aside though, United should win this match. They will play a youthful side but it won’t be short of experienced players like Romero, Bailly, Shaw etc expected to play.
United are currently at 2/5 on Betway with Tranmere at 13/2. However, they would have been at a lot higher odds when they were 3-0 down against Watford during the first leg.
United won’t have their top goalscorer in Marcus Rashford to call upon should it not be going their way. Tranmere’s pitch is awful and it will play into the hands of the home team. A loss in this game could put even more pressure on the struggling Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
