Arsenal beat Liverpool on Saturday to win the first trophy of the season, as Aubameyang keeps up his goal scoring record at Wembley
After winning the FA Cup and the Premier League, Arsenal took on Liverpool on Saturday in the Community Shield. Jurgen Klopp’s side were the obvious favourites for this, especially when the starting elevens were announced.
Arsenal were missing Lacazette, Pepe and Ceballos who looks to be returning on loan. On top of this, their new centre-half William Saliba wasn’t in the squad. Liverpool had a near full-strength side, with Alexander-Arnold and Henderson both missing.
Both sides beat each other in the league last season, so it would be a close game regardless. The one thing with Community Shields are that the sides who win it more often than not don’t win the league the season after. Man City won the Community Shield in 18/19.

Liverpool thought they got off to the perfect start when Van Dijk had the ball in the net. However,, he was ruled offside straight away from the freekick by Robertson.
Arsenal then responded on the 12th minute with a goal from Aubameyang. The goal was a fantastic team goal that started from the keeper and ended with Aubameyang cutting in and slotting it into the bottom right corner. It was a great goal and the captains fifth goal in three games at Wembley.
Firmino came closest to equalising in the first half, but his effort went just wide of the right post. Mane had a huge chance to level it but he missed a one on one, with Martinez closing down the angle well.
Minamino stepped up with his first-ever goal for Liverpool to bring the scores level. The ball was bouncing around the box and he passed it calmly into the bottom right corner. Unfortunately, Mane once again missed another one on one chance and the game went to penalties.
Arsenal came out on top of the shootout, with Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster being the only one to miss after he hit the crossbar.
Premier League Odds
As we said before, those who win the Community Shield don’t usually win the league the following season. This could be why Arsenal are priced at 45/1 with Liverpool at 15/8.
Looking at Arsenals recent form though, they could we be worth an EW bet. They have won their three previous games against Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea and have looked a lot better under Arteta.
They still need to bring in some real quality players as well as getting rid of some dead wood, but there have been promising signs.
Liverpool, on the other hand, won’t look too much into this result. They will still be very confident of challenging for the Premier League title again this season and hopefully retaining it. Liverpool are apparently looking to bring in Thiago from Bayern Munich, who would strengthen the club for the new season.
