Newcastle United vs West Ham

SAT 17 APR 2021 – KO 12:30

Newcastle United vs

In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Newcastle host West Ham at St James Park, in a clash that could have big implications on the fight for survival and who stays in the English top-flight at the end of the season.

Steve Bruce’s team gave their survival hopes a boost last time out, as the Magpies recorded a 2-1 win at Burnley. The win ended a seven-game run without a top-flight victory for the team from the east. The win moved Newcastle six points clear of the relegation zone and they also have a game in hand on 18th place Fulham. Another win in this clash could be a massive step towards safety for the home side.

Newcastle have an inconsistent recent home record in the Premier League, as although they are four games unbeaten on home soil, they have also won just one of their last nine league matches at St James Park.

David Moyes team continued their challenge for a Champions League spot by recording a 3-2 home win over third-placed Leicester last time out. The win moved the Hammers to within a point of the Foxes, although the visitors are also a point above fifth-place Chelsea too.

The win means that the visitors are three games unbeaten in the English top-flight, having recorded two straight victories. The Irons have certainly been potent in attack of late, as they have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight Premier League outings.

One recent negative for West Ham has been their away record, as they have won just one of their last four league matches on their travels.

Team News

Newcastle look set to be without Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Isaac Hayden due to injury, while winger Ryan Fraser is also an injury doubt.

West Ham look set to be without Angelo Ogbonna, Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio, while Aaron Cresswell and Declan Rice are fitness doubts.

Match Prediction

Newcastle’s form has improved of late, but we are backing West Ham’s momentum to take the Hammers to another victory to boost their top-four chances.
