Man United vs Leeds United

SAT 14 AUG 2021 – KO 12:30

Manchester United vs

A season opener for Man United doesn’t get much bigger than Leeds United at home with Old Trafford at full capacity for the first time in over 18 months!

Last season was a good one for United in the Premier League having finished second. However, they started the season off with a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at home. If they could repeat the 6-1 win over Leeds at Old Trafford last year, it would be the perfect start.

Second was a great finish for United last season but this year they need to be actually challenging Man City for the title. The minimum has to be top four for this year, but really with the money they have spent and the players they have there’s no reason a title challenge can’t happen.

United have strengthed already, bringing in Jadon Sancho, and are looking to get Raphael Varane to. None of their big-name players have left the club yet, but Pogba may be one to go. With the quality they have, they will be expecting to win this big game.

Bielsa’s side overachieved in their first season back in the Premier League for over 15 years. They finished ninth in the table, which for a newly promoted team is a fantastic achievement. A win against United on the first day of the season though at Old Trafford would feel even better for some Leeds fans.

A repeat of last season would be another great season for Leeds. They won’t be expecting to be in a survival fight this season and may even look to have a good run in one of the cup competitions.

Leeds have a good squad and on their day they can give any side a tough game. Against United, though after last season’s result, Bielsa won’t be so naive as to take the game to them from the first minute. The longer it lasts at 0-0 the more it plays into Leeds ‘hand to pick up a result.
