However, last time out in La Liga, Xavi’s team needed a last-gasp equaliser from Luuk de Jong to draw 2-2 with Espanyol in the local derby. The draw and results elsewhere meant that the visitors stayed in the last Champions League spot in La Liga. However, they are only ahead of fifth-place champions Atletico Madrid courtesy of a superior head-to-head record.

Barcelona are unbeaten in their previous eight away matches in the Spanish top-flight, although they have won just three of their last 12 league matches on their travels. Seven of their last 12 away matches in La Liga have produced draws.

Valencia have no reported injuries or suspensions, so Bordalas should have a full complement of players to choose from. Barcelona are without the suspended Dani Alves and Gerard Pique, while Memphis Depay, Clement Lenglet, Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti also look set to miss out through injury.
