It’s Poland vs Slovakia on Monday 14th June with kick-off scheduled for 17:00. This will be the fifth time that the two teams have met each other in a competitive fixture.
POLAND
The first time Poland played Slovakia in a major tournament was back in 1934. Although the two countries (including Czechoslovakia/Slovakia) have played each other twenty times in total. The last meeting between them ended in a 2-0 win for Slovakia.
Poland qualified for the Euros when they topped Group G following a ten-match schedule. The Poles suffered one defeat and a draw on their way to qualification for the European Championships.
Recent form suggests they might have a few problems heading into the finals. The Poles have recorded just one win in the last five games. That victory came against Andorra, and Poland only managed a 3-0 win. To be brutally honest, a top international side like Poland should be putting five or six past Andorra.
This will be the Poles fourth successive appearance in the EURO finals; in 2016, they reach the quarter-finals. However, they’ll need a slice of luck to get out of this group. Even if they beat Slovakia, the Poles still have to line up against Spain and Sweden in the next two fixtures.

SLOVAKIA
Slovakia qualified for the Euros via the play-off route. Having said that, this was a very tight qualification group. Slovakia missed out on second place in the group by 1 point. Croatia topped Group E on 17 points, followed by Wales on 14 and Slovakia on 13, Hungary ended on 12 points.
Slovakia will head into this game as the underdogs. Nevertheless, their recent form is better than Poland’s heading into the finals. They recently beat Russia 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier.
My head says this game will end in a draw. My heart says Slovakia is capable of winning this one – with Paddy Power offering 15/4 on that outcome, those odds might tempt brave punters.
