International Football

In the early hours of Friday morning (CET) Jamaica and Mexico go head-to-head in a vital CONCACAF World Cup qualifier.

Jamaica

The Reggae Boyz chances of making the World Cup are not great at the moment. Paul Hall’s team are sixth-place in the standings, seven points adrift of the third-place visitors and Panama, who occupy the inter-confederation spot in the group. It looks like a big ask for the home side to get enough points to make it to Qatar 2022.

Jamaica are four games unbeaten in qualifying. However, they have also won just one of their last 12 qualifiers, as four of their last six matches have finished in draws.

The Reggae Boyz have failed to win any of their previous 12 home World Cup qualifiers. They have drawn three of their last five qualifiers on home soil, though.

Mexico

El Tri are in the last automatic qualification spot for the World Cup. However, their qualification is far from sealed, as Panama are level on points with Gerardo Martino’s team. They need to keep winning games to maintain their position in the standings with just six qualifiers remaining.

Their recent results in qualifying have not been great, though, as El Tri have suffered back-to-back away defeats in qualifiers against USA and Canada, who are the two teams currently above them in the standings.

Mexico have not been great travellers in World Cup qualifying of late, as they have won just two of their last seven away qualifiers.

Jamaica vs Mexico Team News

Blackpool midfielder Kevin Stewart could make his debut for the Reggae Boyz, while the more experienced Je-Vaughn Watson and Anthony Grant miss out. They will also be without Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey and Shamar Nicholson of Spartak Moscow.

Mexico have no reported injury absentees. However, experienced campaigners like Jonathan Dos Santos and Javier Hernandez continue to miss out.

Jamaica vs Mexico Match Prediction

Both teams have been in poor form of late in qualifying. We are backing Mexico to pick up a potentially vital victory in Gerardo Martino’s first game as head coach.
