On Wednesday night, Denmark and Scotland go head-to-head in the Danish capital Copenhagen, as the top two teams in Group F European World Cup qualifying slug it out.

DENMARK

The Scandinavians will have their tails up after a strong display at Euro 2020, which eventually ended with a 2-1 extra-time defeat by England in the semi-finals of the competition. The loss followed three straight victories over Russia, Wales and the Czech Republic.

The home sides form in World Cup qualifying so far has been good, as they have picked up maximum points from their opening three group outings. Kasper Hjulmand’s team have scored at least two goals in each of their three qualifiers, while also keeping three straight clean sheets.

Denmark are unbeaten in five home games in World Cup qualifying, having conceded just once in their last four qualifiers on home soil.

SCOTLAND

Unlike Denmark, Scotland failed to pick up anything from Euro 2020 apart from a goalless draw against old rivals England. Steve Clarke’s team suffered defeats against the Czech Republic and Croatia in their other group games. The group was always going to be a difficult one for Scotland to qualify from.

Scotland have at least started their World Cup qualifying campaign with an unbeaten run of three games. The visitors kicked off the group stage with draws against Austria and Israel before a 4-0 win over group whipping boys the Faroe Islands.

The results mean that Scotland are now unbeaten in their last nine matches in qualifying for the World Cup. However, four of those encounters have finished all square.

Team News

Denmark will be without Jannick Vestergaard, Philip Billing, Rasmus Falk and Andreas Cornelius due to various injuries.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has decided to omit the likes of David Marshall, Stuart Armstrong and Scott McTominay from his squad. The latter is due to recent fitness problems.
