Everton vs Southampton

BETTING & MATCH PREDICTION
Rafa Benitez’s first game in charge of his new club Everton is a home game against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
Despite having Champions League winning manager Carlo Ancelotti in charge last season, Everton only managed a 10th place finish. They started last season very well though and would love to get off to a similar start against Southampton.
Ancelotti has left since and Everton have controversially appointed ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez. For years Everton have been trying to work their way into some form of European football and they feel the Spaniard is the right man to do so.
Everton are yet to sign a player this window, but Benitez will have been promised funds when he took the job. Right now, he will fancy his side to beat Southampton, but it’s never an easy game against the Saints and the fans will need to all be behind the manager on the opening day.
The Saints struggled last season and ended up finishing 15th. At one point it looked as if they could be in for a survival fight, but picked up some big points at the end of the season. A point away on the first day of the season is never a bad result and one that keeps you from the bottom of the table.
Southampton will simply want to improve on last season and make sure they don’t end up having a slightly nervous year again. They are a tough side to beat on their day and should be looking to finish more towards the middle of the table.
Walcott has made his move to the club permanent and would love to score against his old side. Against Everton, we don’t see Southampton going to sit back. They are a very fit side who like to press teams but as we said earlier, starting without a loss is hugely important.
