Czech Republic vs Denmark

Czech Republic vs

On Saturday evening, the Czech Republic and Denmark face-off at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, as both teams look to advance to the last four of Euro2020.

After enduring mixed fortunes in the group stages and picking up four points, the Czech Republic pulled off a surprise 2-0 win over the Netherlands in the last-16 of the competition. Bayer Leverkusen forward Patrik Schick continued his rich vein of form, scoring his fourth goal in as many games against the Oranje. He needs one more goal to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s total of five in the competition.

The Czech’s games during Euro2020 have been low-scoring and tight affairs, as all four matches have produced under 2.5 goals, despite Schick’s scoring streak.

After losing their opening two group games, Denmark have gone from strength to strength, first beating Russia 4-1 in the final group match before a 4-0 hammering of Wales in the last-16. They are certainly doing their country and teammate Christian Eriksen proud.

The two group defeats were rare off days for Denmark, as the Scandinavians have now won six of their last nine international matches. The earlier defeats were understandable considering what happened to Eriksen in their opening match. Now the Inter star seems to be in full recovery, his international team has flourished.

Full-back Joachim Maehle has been particularly impressive, having now scored in back-to-back games. The Atalanta star will likely once again be an attacking danger in this encounter.

Team News

The Czech Republic look set to be without attacking midfielder Lukas Provod. However, they will be able to welcome back left-back Jan Boril after suspension. Denmark have fitness doubts over key pair Simon Kjaer and Yussuf Poulsen. The latter’s replacement Kasper Dolberg last time out is likely to start anyway after a brace in the win over Wales.

Match Prediction

There is very little between these two teams. Making it through to the semi-finals of Euro2020 would be massive for both teams. We believe this game could go all the way and could even finish in penalty kicks, so we are backing the draw in normal time.
