Czech Republic v Bulgaria

On Friday night, the Czech Republic host Bulgaria in Group A of qualifying for Euro 2020, with both teams in need of a victory to kick-start their campaigns.

The Czech Republic made a poor start to their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, by losing their first match 5-0 in England. The defeat means that the Czech’s have now lost five of their last eight international games.

The home side also has an inconsistent recent record in qualifying for the European Championships. However, a record of three wins from their last seven qualifiers is not a great one.

Despite their relatively poor record in European Championship qualifiers, the Czechs have a decent recent home record in the competition, winning four of their last six matches, while suffering just one defeat.

Bulgaria kicked off their qualifying campaign by drawing their opening two games against Montenegro and Kosovo. In fact, the visitors have drawn their last four international games 1-1. They have also failed to win in their last five outings.

The visitors are now unbeaten in three games in qualifying for the European Championships. However, they have found wins hard to come by of late, winning just twice in 11 qualifiers. Their recent games in qualifying for the European Championships have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven matches.

Bulgaria have struggled for wins on their travels in recent European Championship qualification campaigns, winning just two of their last eight away matches in qualifiers. Their away games in qualifying have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four matches.

The Czech Republic have no fresh reported injuries heading into this clash. A number of players have pulled out of the Bulgaria squad through injury, including Nikolay Bodurov, Ivan Turitsov, Marcelino and Stanislav Kostov.

Match Prediction

There is not much between these two teams in terms of quality. With that in mind, I predict that this game will finish in a low-scoring draw.
