BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Tuesday night, Brentford and Fulham go head-to-head at Wembley in the highly lucrative Championship play-off final.
The Bees came close to sealing automatic promotion but suffered defeat in two of their last three Championship games. In fact, Thomas Frank’s team suffered three straight defeats before a 3-1 win in their second leg of the play-off semi-finals against Swansea saw them book their place in the final.
Despite that recent poor run of form, the Bees have won nine of their last 12 games in the Championship, having outscored every team in the second tier over 46 matches. Striker Ollie Watkins has contributed an impressive 26 goals in 48 goals in the Championship, including the two legs of the play-offs.
The Cottagers finished level on points with Brentford in the Championship table, just two points outside the automatic play-off spots. Scott Parker’s have made the second-tier play-off final by being hard to beat. A 2-1 home defeat against Cardiff City last time out ended an eight-match unbeaten run in the Championship. That end of the season run played a big part in the Cottagers making the final.
Fulham’s recent Championship games have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous seven matches. Like Brentford, the team from the English capital have a prolific frontman in the shape of Serbian international Aleksandar Mitrovic, who like Watkins, has scored 26 goals in the English second tier this season.
The Cottagers do not have a great recent record against Brentford, as they have won just two of the last 12 meetings with the Bees.
Brentford will be without young Finnish striker Marcus Forss through injury. Fulham have no reported injuries problems, but Fabri and midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa are ineligible to feature in the clash.
