BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Wednesday evening the big hitters from the Bundesliga go head to head in the DFL Supercup. Bayern Munich vs Dortmund is a mouth-watering prospect for football fans around the world, and this encounter between Germany’s superclubs will give punters plenty of betting opportunities.
For the uninitiated, the DFL-Supercup is an annual football match contested by the winners of the previous season’s Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal (German FA CUP). Bayern Munich have won the trophy a record seven times. On Wednesday Bayern will be attempting to make it eight with a win over rivals Dortmund.
Bayern’s preparations for the game were going great until this weekend. A shock defeat (4-1) away at Hoffenheim on Sunday has left manager Hans-Dieter Flick with big problems ahead of the cup clash against Dortmund. His team looked fatigued, and without Lewandowski upfront, the Bavarians looked lifeless.
The bookmakers still have Bayern Munich as the big favours to win the cup. Boylesport has priced up Flick’s men as a 1/2 shot to lift the trophy. Nevertheless, the Bayern squad has already played plenty of football this season. Including 120 minutes in the UEFA Super Cup last week. The tight fixture schedule is taking its toll, and that could spell trouble against a fluid Dortmund side. Personally, I’d be avoiding the outright win market in this game; instead, I will be looking at the OVER GOALS for value bets.
Dortmund can equal Bayern’s record seven DFL Supercup trophies if they can beat the Bavarian’s on Wednesday night. However, just like Bayern, Dortmund suffered a terrible weekend in the Bundesliga. Lucien Favre’s men lost 2-0 to Augsburg. Incredibly, Dortmund racked up 80% possession during the match and recorded 18 shots to Augsburgs 6!
Dortmund losing to unfashionable Augsburg would usually be considered big news in the Bundesliga. Thankfully, Bayern suffered a worst result, ensuring the headline writers will be focused on Bayern and not BVB.
Matches between Bayern and Dortmund always have a strong competitive edge. However, I feel this game will be more significant to Dortmund than Bayern. Given the betting odds for this game, I can see opportunities for Dortmund fans and natural punters to make a few quid on this game – potentially.
You can get 9/2 on Dortmund winning the game in 90 minutes. Those are fantastic odds for a one-off match. If I were a Dortmund fan, I’d be all over that. As I’m not, I will be betting in the OVER GOALS market. My prediction is over 2.5 goals, and you can get 1/3 with Boylesport.
Robert Lewandowski missed the game against Hoffenheim but could play against Dortmund. Tanguy Nianzou is still out with a hamstring injury. Dortmund will be without Piszczek, Schmelzer, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Tobias Raschl is doubtful.
